5% Tint

Just making this thread as a review for those considering 5% on their Cobalts.. Pictures to come later.

So I was seriously debating on 5% or 18% when I was at the tint place the other day. I had a few friends with me that were huge fans of 5% so obviously they were going to talk me into going with the 5%. So I decided if I'm going illegal anyway, then why not go all out and get them DARK. And when I say dark, I mean DARK. Anyway, about the tint, I haven't really been able to take it out in the bright sunlight yet because it's been snowing/raining ever since I got it done. Even with the cloudy conditions, driving was no problem at all. I was able to see out my side windows fine during the day, only thing I had problems with is my back window, but I usually use my side mirrors anyway so i didn't really worry about it. I imagine visibility will be even better on a sunny day. Now, at night on the other had, it is harder to see out (obviously) but it's definately not impossible. Police do 'stare' at me more often because of it (in NC, the legal limit is like 33%). But have yet to say anything to me. I don't regret getting the 5% done, and it definately looks great with my 'theme' I have on my car. Black rims, black racing stripes, black tint all on red paint. Looks great. Any questions, just ask.

5% is alittle too dark for my liking and for safety. I have 5% in the rear glasses and 20% driver/passenger windows.

@ night if its raining its a PITA to do any backing out of parking places w/ 20%. I'm almost forced to roll down my windows so I can use the mirrors. My hats off to you if you are able to see out of your 5%tint.
But yes.... Red balts w/ dark tint looks sweet.

i found out the hard way that legal limit in NY is 70% i had 35% on the front and i believe 5% on the back. the cop said the back windows were fine and issued me a fix-it ticket for the front. luckily it's just that cling on crap until i have the $$ to have them professionally done. i blew a whole bottle of goo-gone and nearly two hours of my time picking off tint and scrubbing glue off my windows. wasn't pleasant

I love my 5%. Although, my attitude towards it may change after I have it for a while. We'll see I guess.

I live in NC too. What part are you in? I know some people so it isn't a problem to get it to pass inspection!

If you want dark tint, spend the money to get the higher quality stuff that is darker in bright light and lighter when it is dark. My tint looks like 20% when it is bright outside, is rated 35%, and is about as dark as 50% at night.

I've got 20% on mine. I believe the law in Kentucky is 20% on the back and back sides, 35% on the front sides, and none on the windshield (aside from a strip) but thankfully they're not too strict on the law, as everyone I know has 20%. 35% isn't even worth the time and money.

Passing inspection isn't typically a problem... esp. out in the country... you can usually find some shade-tree mechanic to write you off no prob. Still I've got 35% and it's enough for me.
