Additional courtesy lights
Has anyone else wired additional courtesy lights to come on/go off when you open/close your door? Where did you make your connections?
I'm considering flush mount courtesy lights on the door sill, I'm just curious if anyone else has done this yet.

bump.
Two thoughts tried were 1) connecting to the plunger on the door frame and 2) connecting to one of the wires leading to the map lights on the mirror. Neither idea worked.
Any other suggestions?

Did you evaluate how the plunger on the door works?
If it uses the basic concept of short circuiting a certain voltage, you could wire a relay up to it, so that when the circuit is completed, it would trigger the relay to power anything you want.
