aero

ive been thinking alot about diff. things to do with the cobalt. and its come to my attention that the cars aerodynamics suck. so ive been reading up on all kinds of stuff and want to try a few things. im just looking for advise/ideas from you vuys on diff things to try.

i know the high rise rear spoiler is a hot topic, ive seen some people drop .3 in the 1/4 just from taking it off, so i know this car can be improved.
just toss some ideas around or even examples of other cars that work well because of a nice design. ill update with things i find and make.

You're not going to see a .3 sec difference in the 1/4 with or without a wing. Sure the wing creates drag but not a huge amount, and a cobalt just doesn't trap that high in the quarter to notice. Maybe .1 and I doubt it's that much either.

that wing starts picking up drag at 50mph so im sure at over twice that speed its creating a good amount of drag.
ive read articles onmustangs if you cover up the fog light holes drop the spoiler, get rid of windshield wipers and side mirrors. they picked up almost .7 in the 1/4... and mustangs, atleast the ones in the article dont trap as high as the cobalt.

but hell its not even about that really, i would love to do it for better gas milage and better handling. its something that no one does, and i want to do some different things. i dont want my car to look like a gt300 japanese racecar but i want it to be better than stock

Makes since, I mean people put duct tape over just about every little nook and cranny during high speed runs at the salt flats to be as aero dynamic as possible. You could even take off the side mirrors if you wanted to. I just doubted the wing would make that much difference during 1/4 mile, but all little things add up i guess.

Take off the wing and take off the side mirrors. Lowering the car would also help because the underside of a car is not very aerodynamic.

drop the **** out of your car, take off the spoiler, do the mirrors if you so please.

and come back and tell us how much difference it makes.

you guys are no fun hahahaha... if i took the mirrors off id replace them with something like thisgm spent time and money figureing out why "supercars" have mirrors in this spot instead of where you see them on most cars.

not too complicated to pull off.
the other idea has been played around with before as well.

i wanted to do it before and now i have the time and space to try it out.... also am thinking on one for the rear of the car to match things up, i just dont wanna get slippery at high speeds

I dont think youll get slippery at high speeds unless its a backroad highspeed vs what I think your going for in the 1/4 during high speeds. I see where your going with this though. Interesting topic and good vision, as I dont recal this being brought up with this detail before.
