Aftermarket Seats and Brackets

Is anyone here running an Aftermarket Racing Seat ie. Sparco or Corbeau? I am looking at getting a set of Corbeau, Clubmans or Forza, I do auto-x and run alot of Twisties. My stock seats suck and they have no lateral support, plus i can never get them the way I like them. So Basically i was wondering if any one had seats installed and how they installed them, bracket wise. Did you reuse the stock brackets or does someone make brackets for our car.

I think you have to buy new brackets for the seats. I was looking into aftermarket seats since I couldnt find anyone that wanted to sell their SS recaros with blue inserts.

I am just curious in the comparison. Do the Racaros hold that much better than the stock cobalts, or no?

Can you even order the Recaros with colored inserts? I was under the impression that if you wanted the G85 package, you had to choose all black.

the recaros in 04-05 redlines had blue centers in a mesh fabric, 05-up Cobalt ss had grey centers and so do 06 redlines...

BTW I saw several sets of blue recaros on ebay..might want to check em out!

There is a problem with changing the seats, If you have a LS or a LT it comes with the passenger detection system for the air bag, if you put in aftermarket seats you lose that plug-in, you flash a airbag sensor, and get a message on the info line, everytime you start the car.

The only thing i dont like about the Stock LT seats or the SS-SC seats is that they dont sit low enough in the car.

I am putting in some APC racing seats. I removed the brackets from my stock seats and will still have to have them welded to a plate that is welded to the new seat's sliders. The base of the stock seats is wider than that of the new ones. Having said that, removing the brakets is a major pain in the ass. You have to drill out the rivet type bolts used to hold the brackets on. There is no other way to get the brackets off. This takes a long time and by the time you are done the seats are now in many pieces. The cost of getting stock brackets made up wouldn't be cheap and perhaps you can just get a welder to weld the new seat's brackets in.
No matter how you look at it, unless someone starts selling stock style brackets, installing racing seats will take some time and money.

Its under the padding of the seat.. its a sensor that turns the air bag on if there is 60+ pounds on the seat,

So right now im hoping that is works by default... were going to try to get the sensor out next week

Also, check the build book. It talks about there being seat brackets available. I think Roush makes them.

Ask and you shall receive

I am not for sure where I read it, but I was pretty sure that it is Roush that makes the brackets.
