Air Vents?
Hey does anyone know if the airvents can be removed. I just finished painting the trim of my car blue....by the way looks totally sick. But I wanted to paint the vents, but wasn't sure if they could be removed. Let me know.
If i remember correctly this question was asked before and another member said that you could remove the middle ones but the ones by the doors are molded into the dash. The only info he really gave was something about removing your IP cluster and then there are bolts somewhere behind the dash that you have to remove to be able to remove the middle vents but never really heard if this was fact or fiction or any pictures

As Biohazard said...they are ALL removable. The center ones are locked in by screws, and the side ones are held in by clips I believe. Remove the dash and you will see they are ALL removable.

-pop off those middle trim pieces that everyone paints.....
-remove the caps on the a pillars, remove the screws and pull the 2 a pillars off...
-look for as many screws as you can find holding the top dash down, their all over the place
-be carefull of the hazards button it pops out,.....
-tilt dash up, twist that sensor by the windshield and pull down
-pop off the [iece thats further back..... it snaps in
-unscrew the set of screws under what you just popped off and pull dash out

Dude, you are the effin man!!!
Exactly what "vents" are we talking about? The outer trim is moulded into the upper dash pad. The side window defrost vents are removable. Yes, you can take the air deflectors behind the outer trim out. I absolutely know what I am talking about, this is what I do for a living and I can actually look at my own car and see how it is built. Maybe some people have special edition Cobalts that are somehow different than all the others GM has built? What is the problem with painting inside the car? Professionals do it all the time.

Take anybody's word you want, Biohazard is a smart guy, he just happens to be wrong this time. The "special edition" remark was meant to be sarcastic, in my 30 years of repairing cars I have yet to see a factory build a one off car and sell it to the public.
Have a nice day!

Pics from GM service manual. outer trim, which I assume is what we are talking about are pert of the upper dash pad. The actual ducts and vents are removable, but why would you paint them?

I mean no disrespect to Biohazard, but he did kind of call me out,,,,,,,"please make sure you know what your saying before you inform somone incorrectly... "
