Antena siezed

I went to install my modern performance shorty antenna today...
And I cannot get the antenna unscrewed.
It is on tighter than my damn downpipe bolts. It wont budge at all.
Has anyone had this issue?
If so how did you get it unscrewed?
I used some wd40 and it didn't solve it.
I'm using pipe wrench to hold it and a 8mm wrench to turn.
The entire thing turns but the antenna won't unbudge when I hold it...
Anyone ideas?

Mine was on pretty tight. So tight that when I went to untwist it with a pair of pliers I broke the pinch welds. Don't do that. Make sure you hold the base inside the trunk with something.

That's basically what I'm doing. Unfortunately it's on so tight I can't break it free.
I think the bracket was already broken because it was spinning freely before I tried to take it off.
At full strength (I'm not week sauce lol) I can't get it to loosten.
It actually starts breaking the pipe wrench in the trunk free from it it's so tight. I don't see how the trunk bracket was evEn connected to begin with.

Damn you Dustin!
But seriously best birthday present ever. We should date.

I was doing something else one day, decided to see how hard it would be to unscrew, and it came right off. Then when i went to take it off for good, pulled the entire think out....fml

I had this problem too! I broke the bracket trying to twist it off once and then I tried again and actually sheared the whole antenna right in half lol. Needless to say my radio reception isnt the greatest anymore.

Here's a pic of what I did.

I'm high maintainence just so ya know lol. The bracket did move a bit when we were trying to get it off the day after the Christmas party. But I think the bracket tightens from the inside doesn't it?

Honestly man the thing is on so tight I think that's what's gonna happen before it comes off. It's wierd because I bought a shorty antenna at the same time and my older Cobalt antenna came off like nothing.

I couldn't get mine off without using enough effort for what I felt was really going to break it. One of my friends did it without breaking it. I like it much better without any antenna at all now. I want to get rid of that little black base / stub though.

Yea its a bitch to get off..Just use some vise grips and hold the inside base in the trunk and you should get it unscrewed without breaking the bracket!!

I decided to change my antenna without checking the forums first. I had told my parents, I'm going to go change my antenna, be back in 3 minutes. An hour and a half later I had finished. it wouldn't unscrew by hand, so I got an open end wrench that fit, with very little force, I broke the base from the bracket, and the whole thing was just spinning. Pulled out the base, unbolted the bracket, and used vice grips on the antenna, and the base, snapped the bolt. Ended up drilling out the old bolt from the base, and with almost no tolerance, hammering (with a rubber mallet, so as to not f up the threads) a piece of threaded rod that was the same thread pattern as the antenna I wanted. That stuck pretty well without any glue or anything. I then glued the bracket to the base, and tried to re-install. the bracket broke off the base again. I didn't mind how little play the antenna had even without the bracket. So left it off. Noticed some reception issues and thought maybe the bracket was grounding the antenna. Wrapped the base with some 18g wire, and then bolted a terminal end to where the bracket was. Reception is not as good as stock, but it's not awful, I guess what I would have expected with a shorter antenna, but I have no baseline to test against.

i take mine off every year when i store it.. never had a problem. i suggest putting some breakaway oil on it and let it sit for a day or two.. WD40 is a water displacer it doesn't actualy unseize something all that well especially once it evaporates..

I just don't get it.. I mean I can tell its rusted up a bit but holy *****! haha

I think I'm just gonna scope out junk yards til I find one that unscrews and then take the whole mount, antenna and everything. But for right now I've got a sick shorty antenna lol

i see ya ran a 14.2 at the track. what's the elevation there? were track conditions bad? figured you'd at least break into the 13's with a 2.3+ 60ft and your mods/tune..

Elevation good question .... google says 728ft. Track is far from the best, i can spin in third gear (i cant even do that on the street with gms1 without a perfect shift) i think i could manage a 13.8 or so with a perfect run)

I also figure i would be trapping betwwen 104-106 so its possible im a little down on power from what i should expect to be at.

I used Channel locks on the inside and a wrench on the outside. Or if your not going to use the old one you could cut it really short and use a deep well socket. Mine was a pain too. Pb bolt buster and a person holding the plyers is what you need. Good luck man.

I figure i will use some Vice grips and some breakaway oil. and just go at it with some anger haha.

OR i may just pull the antenna down into the trunk and remove it while its not connected (if i can)

Our track sucks. It's an old plane landing strip. They only prep it properly gets is for big events. The only time I've gotten good traction was when it rained for 10 minuites and they were forced to prep the track after lol. And if you are on street tires they won't let you run in the grooves. It sucks.
