Most of pull up reverse features can be taken out. It was the first mod i did to my 02 sunfire. It was just a plastic piece which contained the lockout part. It slid right off the stick once the knob was removed.

Such a useless feature IMO...the chances of the synchros lining up to go into reverse from 5th to 4th is highly unlikely. Anyone who knows how to drive stick would never run into this problem. The only annoying issue was the shift boot was attached to this plastic piece at the top which was part of the lockout feature. You'll probably have to get creative and find another boot or a new way to secure the boot at the top.

find a rubber gramet that will fit inside the plastic collar at the top of the boot and slide it over the shaft. That is what is now holding up my boot with a new shift knober!
