Any product that fixes/replaces the POS stock rear wing?

So the SS wing is all show and no go. We all know it sucks, everyday you're reminded it sucks when you look in your mirror and see it flapping and bouncing all over the place. Worst of all it doesn't even do anything, on the underside you have all noticed how it has a big slot molded into the bottom of it? This slot I'm sure does a great job of killing any down force that it could produce by creating some some low pressure on the bottom of the wing.

Is there something out there like an insert that smooths out the bottom of the wing and adds some strength to keep it from flapping on the freeway? Something carbon fiber that included a new wing bottom surface and an insert to fill in the slot and add strength?

Or, if you've trashed your OEM wing and swapped it for somthing else, post pics please!

Do does anybody actually have this:

Is it solid or does it also shake and start bouncing on the freeway? Is it smooth underneath or does it have the same notch as the stock wing? They say the center section will bolt onto factory SS side towers, if you buy the center secition do you still pay $289? Is the CF filled with UV epoxy or will this thing yellow after being in the sun for six months?

Thanks!

I actually like the looks of that. the carbon fiber looks nice, but i wouldn't put it on my silver car.

I can't beleive that no one likes the WING. After saying that, I will give mine to anyone that want's it. All they have to do switch trunks with me. Mine is Sunburst Orange. The WING is coming off this week-end, and if I have to, will patch the holes with Duct Tape.

Down Force?

This slot I'm sure does a great job of killing any down force that it could produce by creating some some low pressure on the bottom of the wing.

I would have to say I like the slot in my spoiler. I do not want any down force on the ass end of my car. The more force on the tail end, the less on the front of the car.

I like the wing i think it makes the car. Yes its a little harsh when you look out the back window and you cant see **** but without it, it looks bare. I like the big wing and I wouldn't remove it so my car looks more like a vw bug.

Ok so I have to chime in with my .02 cents. When I bought my Balt it had the low pro wing... I drove it a while and discovered it looks just like any plane ole LT out there with the same wing... SO I bought the SS/SC wing from another SS.net member and though it does shake at high speed I don't care. It makes the car stand out for what it is. I would buy the carbon fiber insert if it wasn't soo damn pricey but for now I still preferr the look of the high spoiler to the low pro that can be had on ANY cobalt out there. There's a yellow SS at my work that has the low pro and when we park next to each other mine stands out WAY more than his even being yellow. In my opinion it just don't look right without the High pro wing.

Ok that's my .02 cents take it for what it's worth. and here's your soap box back I'm done with it

I like the stock high rise. if you're looking for a replacement, get the RKSport or a CF insert in the stockie.

And yes, people have the CF inserts. They say it doesn't wobble at all.

I didn't know wings added horsepower!

exactly especially in a turn. A lot of people think downforce is all about straight line but in a turn if your backend comes flying out you can say hello to the wall. There is a reason the grand am cup cobalts keep it on.

I thought our stock wings (ss/sc or ss/na wing) didn't do anything really for downforce? I thought they were merely for show, and if you wanted any kind of downforce performance you had to buy a more aerodynamic wing?

Honestly I think there should be a center pillar for the High pro wing. It wouldn't affect the downforce and it might stabilize the wing a bit. maybe we should suggest it to one of the aftermarket places. I know I'd buy one if it would stop the shakes.

Still love the high pro wing though

blown4banger used to think the wing didn't do anything and then he experienced 100+mph and noticed that the wing stops flapping around at those speeds and stays pretty solid. If the wing didn't bend a lil bit due to downforce it would likely catch some bad air and cause the back end to become unstable such as what happened to the rx-7 that was thrown into the air trying to set a land record for a street car. streetfire should have it somewhere the cause is easy to see the backend comes loose and the car is thrown in the air.

Hey light"bolt

Thanks for the info. I'm sure we'll see a rise in the number of red wings on Balts now for sure

Mine however is already fast enough so I'll keep the blue wing

Peace!!!

Good info... and it's true. I too have seen the wing get stable around 100+
I think it has something to do with reaching it's peak performance range.

I have noticed a problem at 120 though... I seem to get these red and blue flashing lights in the mirror. Can anyone tell me what causes this and how I can get rid of them?

I love the big wing and wouldnt trade it for anything. I agree, it makes the car stand out from the rest, its after they notice the wing that they notice all the other little changes.
My wing also does not flap, wave, shake, flutter or bounce at high speeds. At absolute most, there is a slight tiny shake. So not sure what alot of you are talking about.
I agree, I would like the carbon fiber blade if it wasnt overpriced.

Question.....

What about removing the bench and installing the RKSport 3 piece spoiler. Would that help with downforce?

later
