Black interior paint?

I want to paint my tan interior pieces black but I cant seem to find a color that will match with the top dash, every pic I've seen where others have done it look too glossy and stick out. I want the color to look stock.. Has anyone successfully done this?

nah, just do it right the first time, whipe EVERYTHING down with something that degreases, I LOVE rubbing alcohol, its cheap as water, dries up crazy fast and removes grease and oils.

Use adhesion promoter if you're **** about it not chipping.

PRIME.... PRIME PRIME PRIME!!!!!....

then SATIN black.. it matches pretty well, spray LIGHT numerous coats on... and your interior will look top notch.

agreed satin or flat black will be the closest you will get for color.... i will also say dupli-color is maybe the best for this.... however i haven't tried every product, but had good results....

Thank you, exactly the info i was looking for. When I do this, hopefully i get around to it this week, ill put some pics up.

Going to try doing the headliner and door inserts with fabric paint also, my car is the stealth grey metallic color so i dont know if i want to do the trim and inserts with their 'medium blue' fabric paint or just black it all out.

My friend just did his cobalt black inside. He used black plastic paint & it turned out good. He is on here, AcyclicCobalt21. I don't know the actual name of the stuff he used though.

IMHO i think you should stay with black..... blue would be a witch with a capital B, on fabric.... the plastic any color will work...

ya stick to black, you can do blue accents though, that wont look overwhelming.

I'm going to be dying my headliner black soon

around here plasti-dip is hard as hell to find and expensive ($15 or so a can) lol, I'll just paint the pillars, I've painted a lot of interiors and know how to do it well

I cant wait to dye the headliner though, in my experience all black interiors look really sharp and not so "big" I like the cockpit style, not so much a spacious economy car lol

^ good question. Can you just get black dye, do it in the car and rub it in with your hands with gloves on?

your best bet is to use the dupli-color dye it is meant for plastic and cloth.... please remove the headliner and spray outside the car lol.... i think i used about 6 cans in total for every piece.... i tried fabric dye and it barely even turned the fabric grey... the spay can will eventually set in the cloth and get a nice dark solid black look to it..... i also found that you need to redo it about once a year on the headliner just to keep it looking nice.... my interior has been black for about 2 yrs now.....

im looking to do my whole interior but ive done it before and it chipped easy and was definitely too glossy.

So no clear coat, and better sanding/primering? I didnt prime the first time.

ive heard mixed things about adhesion promoter saying that its really not for spray paint and should only be used in a vinyl situation, is this bad info?

what the hell?!! seriously? I dont want to thave to do this every year lol, seems like enough of a bitch to do it once might have to rethink this

and my friend did his '02 mustang interior and he used adhesion promoter, that paint wont scratch off no matter what, so who's to say right?

i would suggest to look at the can of spray and see what it says.... alot of dyes have a promoter in it already.... if there is too much promoter it can be a bad thing.... however a light dusting i think never hurts... i feel the key to doing the pilars is all in prepping..... the key is to degrease them as best as possible....

as for the headliner you get good at removing it after doing it a few times lol....

Painting the a pillars now. Looking good, but I can't get the piece of plastic off that's under the steering wheel. Any tricks to getting that off?

I'm not, just using the satin black trim paint. Seems to be matching pretty well.

edit: got done with the pillars, the match is almost perfect. pic is a little dark but you can still see.
