bowtie help, por favor

so i ordered a new front grille bowtie, long story short, when i painted the other one it cracked and looked like hell. well i want to paint the chrome housing that the bowtie is glued to, but i do not have a metric rachet set. is there anyway to get that chrome off the front without a rachet set? can i remove the grille easily to just twist off the chrome piece with a pair of pliers? also will plastic krylon paint stick to the chrome piece as it does to the gold bowtie? thanks guys

Im not sure about the chrome part....but about the paint.

i did mine the same time I did my calipers so I used the caliper paint. goes on pretty thick with just one coat. and its a really smooth and shinny finish. No cracks or anything. Just a thought

Iiiiiii...... Don't understand. Why don't u just tape off the gold? And I've never heard of anyone using pliers to get the chrome off the gold. Your gonna **** it up. The krylon paint should stick fine as Long as you sand it. And if you have pliers why don't u use them to take the bowtie off the grille.

Dude, you need to slow your roll.

Cesar was just trying to help. If you don't want constructive criticism than don't post a thread with you complaining about every single post that gets on your nerves.

The easiest way I did it was to buy a 10 dollar ratchet set and went underneath the car with it jacked up a little.

Then I just took off the two bolts and removed it. Took about 10 minutes to do.

If you don't want to buy a set than you can probably get a adjustable wrench and do it the hard way, I guess...

Buy a ratchet set. Damn. Go to autozone and get a set for like $5.

There is no way to magically take a bolt out

I just pulled the top of the grille and shoved my arm in there. I don't think you have Sasquatch arm that you can't fit in there op. And yeah relax bro. Lol I didn't even use exclamation on that post

yeah. if i remember correctly its not even a real bolt its just a washer with threads. lol.

just get the socket and hand loosen and then paint away!

and the plastic krylon is what i used. only complaint is that it didn't come out as shiny as i would hope glossy black should. even with clearcoat its still matte.

******* shitty krylon nozzles.

It not gonna be able to do it with your hands. And what the hell bro , your gonna need a ratchet set anyway. It's always good to have in case of emergencies. A good set like husky band from hem depot cost me only $15.

yeah, i used a knife to wedge mine off after heating up the glue...came off easy, but it cracked. i used adhesive to put it back in one piece and then painted over it. it looked fine, but then the clearcoat ruined it. i sanded it back down and repainted; now it looks like hell hence i ordered a new piece from ebay. i regret not taping it off or just taking the chrome off the grille. DO NOT WEDGE IT OFF- IF YOU DO, BE REALLY CAREFUL AND GO SLOWLY

Sorry about threadjacking you! I took my rear off cause I wanted to repaint it, but all the adhesive stuck to the trunklid. What is a good and/or similar product to use when I put it back on?

if you can't fit your hand down to take it off, run the car up on ramps and get it from underneath...plenty of room that way

Reuse what's left on the trunk. I just reheated it with a blowdrier to the point it got sticky again and stuck it back on

if you removed the sticky stuff then just use 3m double sticky

Or just remove the push pins and pull on the bumper. It's impossible that op can't get an arm in this way
