Bowtie overlay vs painted bowtie
Just seeing everyone with the painted bowties, if you painted them yourself, or ordered the vinyl bowtie overlay?
I wanted to paint mine body color and leave the chrome trim as it is. Thus only having the gold bowtie now be silver (body color). I ask because I don't really feel like painting the rear bowtie on my trunk lid, being 1. pita 2.overspray. I've seen there is bowtie overlays, but I know they don't cover the gold edging around the bowtie. They only over the 2D "face" of the bowtie. So if I went with the overlay there would be the silver face, gold "edge" then the chrome outline.
Anyone? Pics? Steps to how you tackled the painting if you did it?
Hope all this makes sense to you guys
UPDATE: I found the How to paint your bowtie. Big help. So now I guess I'm just looking for anyone who has the bowtie overlays.

i painted mine. it was hella easy and came out great. the only thing is that it took some time to wet sand them and make them nice and smooth and shiny. but well worth the extra work

But taping off the chrome is a royal pain in the ass. It took me a very long time just to do 1 bowtie. I can't imagine how long it would take to do multiple SS badges. I can see the vinyl being a great and easy option assuming you take your time with alignment and do it correctly. But to each his own.

I painted mine myself. Just masked off the chrome and painted the gold part flat-black. Looks great on the gloss-black car. Took like 30 minutes including masking, spraying and drying..

i just put vinyls on my bowties on yesterday.. i just took a piece of vinyl and cut the edges with a razor.. it took about 10 minutes to do. and the best part about it is if you dont like the color, u can just rip it off and try a different color. but yes, putting a vinyl on a 3D surface will leave you with a hair bit of surface showing (only on the 4 inside corners) if done correctly. it honestly isn't noticable tho

half the time even if you paint the chrome paint wont stick to it. anyways definately paint it. i think a vinyl over lay wont contour to the lines in the bowtie that well. its not hard to do. i did mine black.

We have a winner. Take a razor blade and a screwdriver, and separate the two pieces. Then you can be a lot more careless painting it, then just glue it back together. Same for the one in the rear, but IMO the rear one should be left off.

I just painted mine. When I painted mine the first time I took the time to tape off the chrome and the second time I just painted the entire thing and used my fingernail and took the paint off the chrome. It won't stick the chrome. Just make sure you peel it off before it sets up to long.

This may be a dumb question, but to the guys that removed their badges and replaced them or relocated them, what are you using to get them back on the car? (glue, double sided tape, etc.)

The front is held on by two 10mm nuts and the rear is held on by adhesive. 3mm double sided adhesive tape would work well for the rear emblem. Just make sure you clean all the old gunk off the car and the back of the emblem before you put the new stuff on.
