Canada - Legal window tint ?!

I just got off the phone with the local RCMP (US - think state troopers but country wide) after asking about what is/is not street legal (lights, muffler, tint esp.) and they said no window tint at all is legal from the rear edge of the drivers/front passenger door forward ?

Anyone else run into this ?

I have heard years ago that the only tint that is REALLY legal is the one that you get from the factory anything else is up to the discretion of the officer. I had 25% on my last car and never had a problem even when getting pulled over for a routine check.

I know for a fact that in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI that it is illegal to have front door windows tinted.

I see a lot of cars from Ontario with them though.

To my knowledge, most provinces, it is illegal to have any tint on the sides and in front of the driver, and i'm pretty sure here in Nova Scotia you can only go 25 or 30% behind the driver.

On the same topic, I know lots of people that have more the 25% tint on the back windows and have anywhere from 35-45% tint on the driver and front passenger side windows, and no problems.

Tint laws are set by province. And yeah, I've heard that about Alberta... No tint on the front windows for you guys.

It depends on where you live. I know here in Manitoba, it's perfectly legal to tint the rear quarter windows, the side windows can be tinted, and obviously the rear window.

I know that the sides have to be quite a bit lighter then is allowed for the back windows. I don't know for sure the allowed % however. I had 20% all around on my last car.

For New-Brunswick, No tint on front windows, go as dark as you want on the back sides and rear window. 288$ fine. Take it from me, I'm in the business....

Manitoba is 50% on the side windows and 35% on the rears and back for a passenger car. A lot of my friends have darker and you can usually get away with it for awhile, but tint tickets are around $150 and 2 demerits. I just don't need the headache so I decided to keep it legal.
