Car getting fixed

Not sure if I told anyone about this. But I was rearended a few weeks ago. Well after arguing and almost throwing punches. The kid is finally giving me the money to fix my car.

I tried to be nice understanding that it sucked basically. The paint was a little messed up, and you can barley see it and you could just buff it out. But there are other things wrong, where the license plate sits. The plastic was all cracked and is starting to spread. And the harness that holds the license plate light was smashed as well so it just hangs there(ugly).

The shop I am going to ordered the bumper and is going to paint it and get it ready. When they are ready for my car they are going to call me down and said it could take about 2 hours. Which I think isn't bad.

What sucks is(well not for me) that it cost almost 700 dollars to fix. The bumper is only 290 if that. Paint and labor is whats killing the kid. And since his detuctible is 500 it makes more sense to pay the whole cost.

I was even going to go half with the kid to be nice(because im just that way hah) but our conversations with his dad and him were starting to get violent. So I said screw it, pay it all or I'll get a lawyer. My insurance said I could pay my detuctible to them and pay for the car. Meanwhile going after their insurance to get the money and getting a refund for my detuctible and not counting against me. That seem to lenghty!

What is really funny is that a week later his name was in the Police Log for underage drinking lol

Well thats my story lol

Well new bumper is on, only took them 45 mins, if that, to get it finished. The guy said it is basically held in with plastic clips. He also said if you grabbed it underneath and just yanked it you could probablly rip it right off.

Anyways, my question is... when they paint the bumper do they usually wax it or put a clear coat on it? I should have asked him but I didn't think of it at the time.

Thanks!

I think they base coat, paint, then clearcoat. (there may be a sealant after that? don't know...)

You aren't supposed to wax it for something like 30 days after paint has been applied. My memory is failing me here, but it was something like this when I had my last car completely torn down and repainted.
