carbon fiber
carbon fiber
I just bought some 3k 2x2 carbon fiber fabric for my dash insert pieces and I was wondering if anyone new if I can also use fiber glass resin on this also. Let me know if anyone has tried this. thanks.
with Carbon Fiber you can use the fiberglass resin.. but if this is your first time doing that kind of thing you might wanna try your hand at fiberglassing first since it would be cheaper...
Well he just said that he already bought it...Soo looks like scratch saving money...
You are braver than i my friend..I watched a friend fiberglass a sub box a long time ago and decided there was no way i would have the patience for that...Carbon Fiber i couldnt even imagine how hard it would be.

Yes, I had the same idea as you. Ordered some 3k carbon fiber to wrap my interior pieces, but it was next to impossible. The fabric unravels very easily and is hard to keep together, and when wrapping corners of parts it seems to fray uncontrollably. I would consult professional help
ok most people when they talk about resin are speaking of polyester resin which will give the carbon fiber a yellow look. what you want to get is epoxy resin which does cost a little more but it is what most cf manufacturers use and it has UV protection from the sun. it will not turn yellow and goes on very clear. any other q's let me know.
You can also use surf board resin which is clear and has UV protectant. Plus it's about half the cost of epoxy resin.
I don't see why you guys think working with cf is so hard. You just have to take our time. As for the fraying ends just use masking tape to stop it from fraying. Your parts should be wrapped in plenty of excess anyway so the fraying shouldn't make it to the part.

Well what I have found that seems to work is to only do small areas at a time when you are doing compound curves. Then again I'm patient and don't mind spending a Saturday getting one part right. I know a lot of people like to move quickly though but with cf you just can't.

I see no reason for a body shop to have epoxy resin unless they do carbon fiber work. Even then I'd be surprised if they sell it in a quantity you would use.
nah i wrapped it. some how something made a gash in it so i ****** threw it away. i was soo pissed. i still have no shifter top lol. i need to buy another one. anyone know the part number for it i need it bad.
