carbon fiber roof: good or bad

So I saw this "other" car the other day and the roof is laid with carbon fiber.

I know that everyone loves Carbon Fiber, and everyone always wants a sweet deal. My problem with it is if you overlay carbon fiber straight on to metal their is a high risk of it delaminating within 2 years. (Delaminating is cause by the sun)

I was thinking that I could do this same thing.

So here is the other bad part: I couldn't warrantee it. That part worries me the most.

So I thought I would come here and see what others thought.

Go for it, cover it, send us pics.
Don't do it, if you can't warrantee it.

true carbon fiber roof would be the way to go.....cant say there would be a huge market for it as i see it being mainly a functional thing for race cars. i definately wouldnt make it with a sunroof cutout. also people need to understand what a job it is to do a roof

it would have to be a cover, since the roof is tack welded iirc

If you go Full (Real) CF roof you'll probably want to have a cage....

To get a CF roof on the Cobalt you have to drill out the rivets on the stock roof and cut it out. Then glue/screw the new CF roof in. Hence why you'd want a cage for safety and it's really only been done to the Time attack and koni cobalts. They made CF covers for the ms3 as well. Didn't look bad if done right.

You could just get a large sheet of CF Vinyl. Completely replacing the roof on a unibody car is quite involved since the roof is a major part of the structural integrity of the car.

this i know...you know who i am lol. btw no rivits on the stock roof....spot welded. you need a spot weld cutter to take them all out. saferty wise a cage is a great idea. i would just make an overlay because i doubt half the people even have knowledge to hack up the stock roof......plus if you live where theres cold weather carbon fiber parts need to keep warm so if you put this on you best be garaging the car over winter.

That's not real CF. That's 3M Vinyl. CFcreations is talking about a real CF wrap.

No way does it look the same. I believe i was the first person to use the 3M stuff on here and its better than the fake carbon fiber stuff but nothing like the real stuff.

Why not screw the overlay to the roof? It'd be real easy to hide the screws under the two metal trim strips that line the sides of the roof.
