Cargo Tray -- New GM Part
GM has a new Cargo Tray Available for the trunk. It weighs about as much as a pair of pants so it won't kill your performance. Keeps things from sliding around and if you spill anything it won't make it to the mat/carpet. If you have the pioneer speaker you'll have to remove it to get the tray to lay down correctly (4 nuts and a connector) and then reinstall it.
I got it from CED...where else!!!

CED = crateenginedepot.com Site supporter and GM dealer (lattof Chevrolet) who gives us Cobalt owners great prices AND low shipping costs. They put the door sills (see thread on Door sill plates) and the cargo tray in the same box to cut the shipping costs.
CED should have these up on their site soon.

Damn it! I'd love to have that, but it'd have to be taken out EVERY single track day. Maybe. Would depend on how **** the tech person I got was. Ditto for auto-x. If it's not bolted to the car, it has to come out.

You can lift up the right side of the original cover high enough to get the spare out without any problem. The cargo tray is very flexible -- it comes rolled up in a thin long box
My Cobalt's trunk is now on display..............

While I would agree, it IS held in, unless it's physically bolted DIRECTLY to something, it HAS to be removed. If I did drag racing, they seem to not care about much, but for road racing and auto-x anything "not directly fastened down" is a safety thread and HAS to be removed. My only other thought is cutting down the lip on the edge of the mat so that it can be slid out from under the sub.

why does the sub have to removed??? I can pull out the entire carpet that's in there now, with out removing the sub, not just the right side...this won't just slide right in?
I have a G5 mind you, but i would think the cobalt set-up is the same...

No, if you look at the setup of the cargo mat it has a significant lip around it taht the carpet obviously does not have. THAT is what requires sub removal.

The sub is too close at the forward bottom area to slide the tray in....I tried and ended up removing the sub.

Auto-x people got back to me and said most places would not give me a hard time, but I might find the occasional tech inspector that was **** about it. I think in that case I'd physically show that it couldn't be removed.
Soon as I get some money saved up I think I might buy me one o'deez.
