CF hood defect

My friend told me the other day that he was watching a tv show and they were doing CF hood test on GM cars. He said that on one of the cars, not sure which one it was, that on a front impact collision, the bolts on the hinge actually broke through the hood and the hood slammed through the windsheild, decapatating the test dummy. I dont know if this is true or not. Has anyone else seen or heard of this happening? Because if is true this guy isnt planning on buying any CF hoods, and I really want one.

Seems like that could be a possiblity on any hood...oem or carbon fiber... If you hit something just right.

Stock hoods are engineered with "crumple zones," where the hood deforms so as to cause the least amount of damage to the passengers in the car (but NOT to the car itself). Carbon fiber hoods are lighter and stronger, and NOT engineered with safety in mind, so any frontal impact could indeed send the carbon fiber hood through the windshield and through anything else that stands in its way.

I would NEVER put one on my car.

one thing you have to realize is that cf hoods are for show or off road use only. they clearly state that on any good name brand cf hoods that you buy. they do not need to meet any safety requirements what-so-ever due to them only being for show or off road use.

What show was this on. Im having trouble believing that a tv show went though the expense to crash cars with these hoods.

I would think that a CF hood has a good chance for it to not crumple and go through the windshield. It is afterall for offroad or show use and is designed for looks not safety

you really think hoodpins would hold a cf hood from a head on collision impact?

Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber have the same basic structure except CF is much stronger.

The title is misleading. It's not a Defective Hood...

Exactly. The title should have read: "Death by carbon fiber"

The Force of a collision can litterally remove tires in the back of a car when the hit is in the front. I think the hood pins will just fly off and end up in some Shitpumps head.

Brian, why do all your posts contain profanity. I am an ex navy man and I don't cuss that much. I would like to ask you to stop, especially in these forums where our younger enthusiasts do not need to be subjected to it. Thank you
