Could someone give me information on the shift knob?

I can never manage to get the darn thing off. If someone could tell me how that would be a big help. Also, it would be great if someone could give me the following information about the knob (although I could surely do it myself if I managed to get it off): the thread size and length of it, and the diameter of the recessed area on the actual knob, and the depth of the area. Thank you.

Pop off the part that has the numbers on it with a tiny screwdriver.

Yes, you need to tell us which model.

The SS/SC & SS/TC shifter is not threaded, it's pressed on (and spring loaded, so don't get your face in front of it while taking it off).

if its an auto you twist the chrome plastic about a 1/2 turn then pull down, then you need a torx to remove the screw, then pulss off.
reinstall in reverse order

Then pull like hell. First try prying off the little plastic piece with the shift pattern on it, some people have had a screw or something under there? Mine did not. I had to take it out and pry like hell to get the knob off and it's not threaded on at all. So if you're planning on just slipping an aftermarket shift knob on, you might have an issue.

When I had the stock shifter on my SS, I took the stock knob off by taping the bottom of the knob with a rubber mallet and it eventually popped off. I had the same problem, I even gave up and took the aftermarket knob back to the auto store. Your better off just changing the whole shifter with a Hurst like I did, Hurst makes a real nice shifter
