cruise control lamps
Anyone know the part number for the lights under the cruise control buttons. Not the led but the ones that light up when headlights are on? 2006 ss/sc Dealer told me I had to replace the whole switch unit because they don't stock the bulbs.I pulled the switch out of the steering wheel and the bulbs are not soldered in but there is no part number on them.
Well I had the switch module out and you can remove the lamps by turning out the holders.I found some bulbs that fit at radio shack part #272-1092 $1.99 for two.Pulled the old bulbs out by unwrapping the wire leads and inserted the new bulbs, rewraped the leads and reused the blue rubber bulb covers from the old bullbs.Replaced the module in the wheel and the look like new.Only took about 30 minutes total.Hope this helps someone fix their burned out lamps without having to buy the whole switch unit.
How did you manage to remove the part of the steering wheel to replace the bulbs?
I want to do it myself, but i fear that the airbag may go off or that i may ruin something.
Please help.
thanks

So my radio controls that light up on my steering wheel are burnt out. I have an 06 cobalt SS. How do I change them? I thought it was just a fuse, but I think it is more involved than that...... Any help would be great!
Remove the switch by sticking a small flat head screw driver between the steering wheel and switch and pry out, the whole thing pops out as one piece
Get some 3 mm 12v LEDs color is your choice,
Look at the back of the switch and unscrew the bulb holders,
Unwrap old bulb from the holder, wrap new led in the same way the old one came out
Reinsert, and put your switch back in.
Done
And your not gonna set your air bag off.....
