Cruise control LED

Haven't seen anything on this yet, but I got so tired of that lame orange cruise control indicator, so I replaced it with blue. Will post picks when I find my camera.

will do, but a warning, I "tweaked" my led because I couldn't find a blue small enough. It is actually quite quick and IMO easy. When I find the camera I will tear it back apart to do the how to correctly. I hate the how to's without pics. Probably by Saturday.

hmm don't think so. My main rattle is the rear deck, but turning off the stereo helps.

sweet, can't wait

And I hate that when you dim the lights the LED is still fully lit.

The blue I put in is actually brighter too. I am going to tame it, just thinking of how

it's a direct solder to a small board, no clearance. I guess tracing the wire, hey maybe tie it into the dimmer or add a second POT just for the LED? Adjust whenever you so desire.

get a sharpie, or some sort of enamel / laquer paint, and put a small dot on the tip. perfect

Exactly what I was thinking before adjustability ran through my mind. To dull the orange, i originally used a small piece of plastic, I believe it was from a fast food drink lid. I thank I will use a blue sharpie

oddly enough, when I was hooking up my gauges, i tried to just "tap" the wires (each of them) that come out the back of the dimmer switch for the dash lights and apparently that thing is not a POT that just changes the voltage... from what I can tell it's actually some sort of a "sensor" that is read by a "computer" that dims the lights. If you'll notice, at least on my Ion anyway, when you roll that dial, the dimming doesn't happen "instantly" or "inline" w/ you rolling it (as it would w/ a straight-up POT), it's a bit delayed and "fades" in or out as you roll the dial.

Really kinda pissed me off.

There was a "how-to" in one of the Corvette mags about doing this same thing to the window / door locks in the door panels, adding the LED in there.

THey say the same thing about using a dremel to grind it down to fit.

Anyone think about trying this approach to the dash cluster lighting???
