custom guage pods

Hey guys whats up, im building some custom gauge pods for the cobalt, and im looking for your input on where they would benfit you the most... looking at it, i could build a 2 or 3 pod that replaces your center vents, but i know a good lot of you would rater keep that lol. what about a nice flowing 2 or 3 pod thats molded into the top of your steering colum? here are some pix of pods ad other stuff ive done for a few other platforms. i also do other custom work as well..so if you have any ideas or would like something built, let me know.I also CF wrap as well. ! thanx guys

im in the process of doing a triple pod similar to like what a lot of the subaru's have. i was going to mold it to our vents but unfortunately our vents arent removeable so im just altering it to go right above them and then either ill modify the dash to make it work or just use double sided tape and make a stick on version.

nice. ive seen alot of the stick on version, idk to me, and its jut my opinion, but i feel as if, if your going to go to the extreme of needing gauges, then im sure your ride is pretty nice, i think, stick on stuff like that or stick on CF, really kills the cleanness of the car. but i guess that depends on what your doing with it, if its a show car then its a deffinate no no, but other then that its all up in the air. personally, id want it to look OEM sleeper or be extreme like molded in and painted matched to the car color etc, im not a in-between guy lol. jus my .02

i completely agree.....i have a couple different plans in mind and most involve being molded to the dash. its just going to be a pain trying to get the oem looking finish back into the dash. stick on version would be for people that dont want to cut their dash apart. this is probablly going to be a one off thing. i dont like gauges on the a pillar(after having them) because they block the turning radius/apex on the road coarse. also with them on the dash you dont have to look as far over to get your readings. plus on hot days i can cover them up unlike with the a pillar.

glove box is to far over to look and i think the cup holder is to far down

You'll have to become a vendor to actually sell them, but good luck on creating stuff!

I'd like to have the simple cluster gauge. Hopefully the mods don't freak out over this.

my band i stand corrected but he can handle it through pm though. he cannot however list pricing on here publicly in the thread without being a sponsor. its like the local group buy im doing for stance coilovers. people can pm me allthey want for pricing and info from thm but i cannot post and prices on here. id offer my gauge pod to people if they want them but id take it to pm.

mods should freak out of gauging interest and getting ideas. they will however lock this down if theres any kind of pricing dicussion and so forth.

The man's looking for ideas and to see if there's even a market for these parts. If he decides there is I'm sure he will become a legel vendor and offer them for sale on the forum. But first he's got to make something to show to build some interest. It's a case of which came first. Chicken or egg? I just re-read the whole thread and couldn't find a price anywhere. it seems like everybody complains there isn't enough aftermarket stuff for our cars, then when somebody wants to make something new for the Cobalt you bitch about it.

Hey glowryder. If you could make something to close enough tolerances so that the mount edge would fit into the groove around the vent, and get this, clips on the back that could fasten it to the vents fins? Or even tape all the way around on a lip inside the pod. Elaborate but doable. I made a dash pod based on a el-cheapo universal 2 gauge pod that just sits on the dash just above the vent. My idea was to have it sit to side the side of a sticky dash pad and throw a pair of sun glasses up there so it would just look like a pair of glasses on a pad next to the pod. I cut the base of the pod to the contour of the dash and I have the pad (they work great) but I just never got around to finishing it. Only problem is the wires would have to all be bundled into a piece of straight shrink tobing and run straight to the base of the windshield where it can be tucked in and disappear just as I did with the wire from my external GPS antenna.

Just my ideas.

all correct! I just want to be clear, i am NOT a shop, i would like to be some day lol, but as of now, im a hobbyist looking to do well, more custom stuff lol.

and buelfool has it, ive encounterd sooo much resistance when i post on other forums, i hear alot of people have interest, but when it comes around, they do bitch or ban lol. The main problem i seem to be having with becoming a vendor is the price, som forums require 150$/ month...and for me, thats alot b/c quite honestly, im doing this as a hobby and im not trying to turn around huge profit or anything, thats where the 150$ ad fee stings. theres other forums that have me as a "freelancer" or "mini sponsor" where they recognize that im not a shop and cant necessarily afford 150+ a month and have a much more reasonable price, which would trickle into any pricing on goods/services... Im more concerned with quality vs how many parts i can pump thru to pay my ad fees you know.. i need to do some more looking on this forum and others to see how its set up, if there is a freelancer or mini vendor status, id deff be in! so if ne one has any info on that, feel free to share it too! lol

as for pods, i was thinking, making something the molds into the water fall, and halfway overlaps the vent and top of dash when installed, that way it flows, looks semi custom (depending how you paint it lol) and youll still have vents. like alot of the srt4 work ive done alot of people want those vents to stay functional.

thanx for the understanding!

thats pretty much how i want to do it. is make something work with the vents rather then against it. i have the stuff and have started making it. got the contour for the dash down. im going to get a second dash though so i can work on it more rather then just using the one on my car once in awhile
