Did I do something wrong?

I just bought one of those cool cheap little third brake light decals off ebay and it's cool as hell looking says *Cobalt* where * is the Chevy logo. It's exactly what I wanted, and it's almost a perfect fit.... but I screwed it up.

I cleaned the brake light religiously, then I held the decal as steady as I could (my hands were pretty shaky I guess) but no matter how carefully I put it on there, I screwed it up. It's all fucked up in the middle now like a two year old wrote the Cobalt on the back there. I'll see tonight if it's really noticeable or not, but in the light it looks like ****.

Anyone have tips for putting this on or know a way to put a decal on if you've got the shakes like me? I've got more anxiety than a mother of a 13 son daredevil team.

Maybe have a buddy hold up the next one and I just push it into place? I don't know.

lol.... just hold it with fingertips and rest the bottom of your hands and forearms on the trunk. that will steady your hands.

I have shaky hands too but when I need to steady them i get as much of my arms as possible on a solid surface.

trick that we used at a vinyl shop when i worked there was to take some soapy water and spray it on the tail light first and then place the decal over it. The soapy water will allow the decal to move a little so you can position it where you want it. Once its in place press firmly down on it with a paper towel to soak up the water and make the decal stick

Thank you! This I will definitely try. I'm definitely going to order another decal. Everything on it looks spectacular and awesome but there's a crinkle in the L of the Cobalt.

Just for added safety on install, I'll ask a friend to help. Thanks guys!

P.S. I'll post a pic of it tonight, so you can see how horribly wrong a botched job it was.

Remove the whole light from the trunk and then put it on.

apparently cleaners mess up the vinyl stickers, windex, etc etc, cause it to bubble and screw over. so..don't use it lol

I used windex, I didn't know which cleaner I should use to get that third brake light clean enough to apply the decal correctly but then I figured it was plastic so I shouldn't use anything too strong on it. I didn't know windex reacted that way to adhesives. That might have been part of the problem.

I still think it looks semi-decent, I'll try to get a pic up tonight. Just got off work, so it's still dark out.

Got a picture uploaded now. You can kind of see that the L is screwed up, but it looks alright from a distance.

Yeah except the bottom right of the A and the top of the L looks like someone with cerebral palsy wrote it.

next time, before removing the back, trim extra around the outline and then use a wax pen or something non permanent, line up sticker, then make a couple marks where you want it. pull off the backing and line up with marks on car to marks on front of sticker, press on, then peel off front. i used to install too, and we would always center, make marks then install. hope this helps.

It's nearly impossible to see that it is screwed up unless someone is really on your ass, but I don't think the message that it sends is all that appropriate. Someone thinking "Hey wow, Cobalts are pretty cool.... " then they roll up to get a closer look and go "Hey wow... that retard let his daughter put a sticker on his tail light"

I'm planning on ordering another one and trying again sometime, but I probably can't until after pay day next week.
