Done the SS grille decal mod...

Let me tell you this looks great. I have a small tip for you guys worrying about seeing the holes behind.. I put some black electrical tape over the holes, cut out the small circles with an x-acto knife, then painted them the colour of the body (touch up paint) now any holes or part of holes that were visible, is now gone and has a clean flush look.

Pics below

looks good man, but how is it being held up? just with double sided tape? cause that means anybody could just take it.

All the SS symbols are being held on by double sided tape from the factory. If they wanted to they could steal any of them. Besides, it was only 10 bucks for the SS logo. If someone steals it, I will order another, no biggie.

That would be great, but there is nowhere to attach anything to on the sticky side of the SS symbol..

What holes did you cut out and paint? I really want to do that to my SS but I don't want to screw anything up.

Looks Fantastic! I have been thinking about doing the same to my Black SS/SC 2005.

Where did you get the lower grill insert? How much? Is it a easy install? Its very factory looking

I bought mine from John Holland in Burlington (July 29 they received 3 2005's) The rear Supercharged badge, even in the showroom had lifted off the paint and they were going to fix this before delivery. That didn't happen. A couple weeks later after making an appointment and driving into Burlington from Oakville, Ford Drive area 60 min in traffic they told me "Sorry the SS Logo was on back order, I remarked "How interesting....but I'm here to replace the Supercharged Logo! D'oh!" (funny thing, each time after pointing the logo peeling off to most people they immediately press it down like somehow I never tried that or thinking its going to stick for them)

I also pointed out after washing by hand my car for the first time after about 250k the Rims coating appears to be flaking off on some spots and the rims look like someone "touched" them up in a couple spots. The Service manager who incorrectly ordered the SS logo's commented that the flaking was "scratches and chipping" picked up from stones from the road. Interesting since was only driven on the QEW from Oakville to Toronto and there is absolutely no stone damage anywere else except on the rims. (Either the Rims Magically attract stones or there are alot of "Smart" stones on the QEW) He's said he'd need to check with GM on what the tech information say's or what other options I may have ie. resurfacing.

Hey everyone. First of all there is no holes to cut, the holes are already there. The gold chevy symbol is held on by 2 nuts, and there is a third hole which is used at a "guide" to keep the chevy symbol straight. They have 8 SS logos in stock at GM's Woodstock parts plant. I ordered mine and it was at the dealer in 2 days. I deal with Gateway chev in brampton, I have a business account there. The lower grille cost me around 80 bucks canadian and had to be shipped from Lansing Michigan, too one week for the dealer to get it. As for the rims flaking, I have not had this happen yet, but I have had some stone chips. If you go to Canadian Tire in the touch up paint section, they have a GM "Gunmetal Metalic" which matches the rim colour exactly. I am pleased with it. The grille simply snaps into place, when you order one, make sure its not the smaller grille they are looking up which comes on the LS models of the cobalt. You will know from the price, if it seems cheap, its the small one. You should be paying anywhere between 80 to 100 bucks for the grille depending how much they give you off list price.

I just put the same lower insert on my 2005 SS/SC.

its part # 15773841 from any Chevy dealer, was less than $40.00

snaps in and takes about 1 minute to install.

Looks alot better than the big ol hole there (unless you like looking at the a/c condenser and telling everyone its the "inner cooler")

Hey SilverSS, you can do what I did, I cut an exact replica of the front badge out of black vinyl and after laying that over the original spot there are no more holes to see, and the SS badge sticks out rather nicely on the black finish. I did this early last week. Looks badass. I can pot a pic if you all want.

now if we really wanted to get down and dirty and do a good job i would assume we could use some body filler or something to fill the holes and then paint it black? or no?

By the way it looks awesome!!!

This is how I did mine. I cut a black bowtie to help cover the wholes that is exact to the OEM shape.
