door sill appearance mod question

i just got my MRZ doorsills and im going to do the mod. i know where to get the el tape and all that
but has anyone figured anything out to protect the tape from stuff like rain snow and ice and all that.
that is the only thing stopping me because i dont want to wire everything up and have ice destroy it and all that once snow and all that comes soon for winter. i live in ny state and we got slammmmed with a ice storm last year and i was thinking to my self if i had that mod would it all still work. Sweetsandman said hes in the process of doing something to protect it but i was just wondering if anyone else out there has done anything.

I'm going to a couple different stores today to find some clear adhesive paper/contact paper or something...maybe clear book covers...possibly even that clear door guard stuff that looks like industrial strength clear packing tape.

There are some sites that make it for outside

The strips themselves are...not sure about all the connectors..but I'm sure the OP..like myself...doesn't want salt/grime/slush and any other crap getting down in there as it would be difficult to clean out. I'd rather just have some sort of laminate that goes over top so I can just wipe it down if it gets dirty.

There is the crap that my dad used to squirt into electrical connections that we had to make my old ass cavy that prevented the elements from corroding and rusting the copper wires. I duno. But I gotcha. Good luck with the set up. I can't wait to see more pics of them.

yeah i wanna know how to protect these things before i go and do it and all that
because i dont want to stick it to the door and than have the panel break because of weather and all that
because i take it its a pain in the ass to remove it from the door once its taped on

OK so I've decided that I'm going to go with this...it's Duck brand industrial packaging tape that is "HD-clear"...it should work perfectly...The other option I was considering was Window Tint..only because it might look really cool to have the whole thing just slightly darker...but eh I'm cheap and this stuff was only 2.99

so do you put this on before you put the sill on? like over the el strip?
or do you put it on top of the sill?

i think it would look weird if you put it on top of the sill because you can tell its there

I'm going to put it over top of the whole thing because I don't want anything falling down in there at all. I mean if it ends up looking like crap I'll come up with something else but we'll see. It should look fine because I'm going to do the WHOLE sill and obviously cut it to shape. It didn't cost much so if it looks bad I'm only out 3 dollars. I'm going to smooth the heck out of it with a credit card or something so there's no bubbles or imperfections. It seems clear enough so it shouldn't be very noticable.

yea i get what your saying
but if you put the tape on in one whole long strand because thats what i assume your doing your going to have to do it perfect because its tape and if you mess up your going to have to pull it up than put it back down and all that

Patience I suppose ha ha Yeah it shouldn't be too difficult especially since it's on that dispencer thingy.

I would really like to do some thin plexiglass over the whole thing but this thick tape should work just as well...and be less of a PIA...and be cheaper...
