Thumbs up Drum paint kit.. good or no?

sup guys, so i went to the dealership to get some info on trading in the balto.. f*ers wanted to screw my parents over and pay $430 a month just to trade in my LT for an SS.. so we said forget it, wel keep the LT and just pass it on to my little bro when he gets his license.

anyways, im thinkin about painting my rear drums because they have rusted up pretty badly..
i found this kit online that gives you everything you need to clean, prep, and paint your calipers or drums..

is it worth it? its only $20... does the kit look ok quality wise?

im thinkin about gettin Satin Black for the drums because my car is silver.

as long as you paint the drums black, Spanky i think is the exeption. He painted his drums red and his car looks good.

i dont suggest painting your drums. the drum itself is what dissipates heat from the rear braking system. painting it will cause brake fade in the rear. calipers are fine but drums are a in my book

brake fade is when there is so much heat in those drums that it reduces stopping power. painting regular calipers doesnt matter because it is the rotor that dissipates heat but with the drum you are keeping all that heat inside which under extensive hard braking could boil the brake fluid meaning you will lose brakes.

painting wont keep that much heat in... i understand your reasoning but its doubtful it he throws a coat on and its the rears anyways which only compensate for a small amount of the stopping power

You can find the VHT kit, with cleaner, paint, a brush, everything, at a local Autozone or something for $20. I see them on clearance all the time for like half that.

As far as Blazin said about heat, on rear drums, it's basically a non-factor. They don't get hot enough normally to cause an issue, and the rear brakes do maybe 15% of the braking work on the car, probably less than that. If you completely lost brake function in the rear, you would barely notice it on the street. Performace driving environment, different story, but I doubt you are hot-lapping with your car, so even if it would make a difference (which I highly doubt), you will never push the car to the point where it would actually happen.

Oh really? maybe i should stop by my local Autozone then and see what they have in stock instead of buying this kit and having to wait for it to ship and arrive. Thanks for the heads up

and na, i dont race or anything.. this is my daily driver.. mostly to and from school, and the occassional date with my gf

but yeah il definately update and post pics when i get it done.

screw that cheap spray paint on crap, look up frolio tech, might be spelt different, its a paint on application 100x better than that stuff and does not ever need to be touched up or whatnot again.
