Exploding Headlights!?

I got out of my car today after getting home from work and noticed something strange about the driverside headlight. Inside the headlamp at first looked to be drops of water but at closer inspection looks like shards of glass or plastic. I gave the headlamp a once over to make sure no one had damaged the headlamp itself and began wondering where in the hell did these shards come from. I then decided to turn the headlights on to see if they were working. Turns out the driverside bulb was out. It looks like it quite literally exploded. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions on which replacement bulbs to go with?

Probably condensation or a water leak. Bulbs blowing up isn't THAT uncommon, but still a little odd when it does happen.

Had that happen to a 2002 Impala. Left front did the same thing. In this case is was a police car and was upfitted with corner strobes in the front parking light section. (We cannot install strobes in the headlight portion). Car was parked with headlamps and strobe bulb working a while. In my case, must have been the excessive heat (air temp) in the headlamp capsule. It was a vilent explosion, to the point of having to repace the entire headlamp capsule! I haven't used both lights at the same time for any long period of time since then. I have never had the problem since.
In your case, if bone stock, just a fluke defective bulb. If aftermarket bulbs, maybe upgrade brand... Can't see a wiring issue cause this.
