F'd up my headlight!!!!!!!!!

So I did the painting o' head lights mod and the drivers side came out SWEET. Now the sad part! Well I was putting back the passenger side together and didn't notice a HUGE clump of silicone ok the nice newly painted black. This was after they were sealed and just about screwed into the car. Well after putting them back in the oven again, sanding, painting etc.
I was just about to put them together again and noticed there was a ton of silicon on the clear housing. Here is where it gets messed up. I tried to use some goof off to get the silicone off the plastic. Guess what IT EATS THE S*HIT outta clear plastic! So now I have a nasty couple dull spots. (yes I used it on a couple sport before I checked if it was going to damage the clear plastic). So looks like I will be hitting eBay and getting a new one and starting from scratch.

With all that said it is a REAL easy mod to do and would suggest anyone doing it. Just take some extra time to get rid of some extra silicone before trying to squeeze them back together. Like I said the drivers side came out AWESOME. The passenger side is usable, and to most people they wouldn't even notice (esp. since lights are always dirty/spotty anyway) but you know how that goes, smallest imperfection and our eyes always get drawn to that spot. "It looks fine" is what they always say back to us right.

Man that sucks.
So you painted the inside of the head light?
Do you have any pix. Would love to do that to my 2006 black HHR.

Damn that sucks..I havent done my lights cuz I'm scared I'll mess them up, and I have all the stuff ready to go. I'm just hitting up the local junk yards to buy a set for cheap and paint those. Good luck finding a replacement.

I work at a chrysler dealership, so I found a light from a caravan just so I can practice before I do this. So if anybody has a new caravan and would like a blackheadlight, let me know. haha!!!

Its kinda tough to get a shot of where i messed up because of the glare. I will try to take some pics later tonight maybe when the sun isnt as strong. They do look SICK though! If it wasnt for those couple dull spots on the clear lens it would be perfect. EVERYONE should attempt to do this. Just dont use Goof Off to get any of the sillicone off the clear plastic. Just put it in the oven (about 170) for 10 mins so its warm and gooy and just pick it off. I just got a little too excited and was like f it, i'll just hit it with a little of this and then i can put them back together. Just take your time. It is REAL easy. Dont let my mess up stop anyone from trying it. I'm a "techie" so thats where my brain is so doing this stuff isnt second nature for me and i did a sweet job overall! Just kinda rushed and took the easy way out and ended up paying for it. Going to try to call the dealer and see if i can just get the clear plastic lens only. Doubt it but its a worth a shot (anyone know if there is a part number for that or not??)

The silicon i used (that made a mess) was the stock stuff left over. I kept some on to make a better seal. That isnt what ate the plastic. It was the "Goof Off" that messed it up.
