F'ed up taillights.

So yesturday me and my friend took out my taillights to black them out. Apparently on the bottle it says best works at 70 degrees and when we did them it was alittle late in the day and not 70 degrees. They got all cloudy. Would paint thinner take the paint off or am i stuck with my ******* move til i buy new taillights?

The cloudiness would match if it was cloudy all the way across but it isnt.

well, SOMETIMES if paint is dull because of that, and quick light sand, another coat and letting them sit in the sun a bit to dry warm helps. other than that, just buy new ones. you'll never get them "clean"

Paint thinner does fog up plastic pretty bad if you use alot. Just try it, your lights are fucked anyways.

What grit sand paper should i use? would a clear coat help to rid of the cloudyness too?

careful and light. what you're looking to do is give a fresh light coat a place to stick. just as light as you did before you painted the first time.

so by sanding it will allow for the cloudy ness to go away. Right now they feel and look spraypainted almost as apposed to tinted. They have a greyish color to them.

usually, the reason you get poor spray results is that it doesn't dry correctly. what you're trying to do is smooth out the shitty spray, and apply a fresh nice top layer. you ma even get the same results from a light sand and clearcoat. you cants repair the bad paint, but you maybe able to hide it...

hell, some rubbing compound may help as well, lol.

ever buff out and then touch up a scratch?

hiding it will work too. Either that or i was thinking of adding another coat to the cloudyness and just making it so its cloudy the whole way across. the grey doesnt look bad just differnt from what i thought it come out to be

my friend did his and they came out sweet mine are just darker. im gonna mess around with them today when i get out of work. ill throw some pics up when i get home of before and after . hell if they are already messed up if i do it more atleast i know what not to do next time haha

Yea trust me.. go to walmart or home depot... get a can of "Lacquer Thinner" thats what it says on the can.. its like orange and blue can. If you just painted the lights, all you need to do is get a washcloth, dab it in the thinner and scrub away. if its baked on there pretty good, pour a bunch of thinner and a bucket, and let the light float in there for a minute, it literally just peels it off like a film. i've done this many time to tail lights, included the cobalt tail lights and i've not had any problem with them fogging or damaging the plastic.

you may have gotten the white film because you didnt hold the can upright. and honestly if you want the tint to last... use niteshadez.. works better than anything else. looks better and lasts longer. dont forgot to do a few coats of clearcoat
