Gauges? Cobalt don't need no stinkin' gauges...

...apparently not since it doesn't have a coolant temp gauge or an oil pressure gauge...two gauges that I think are very important. What the...?!?!?!

If I dip into the Cobalt "well", I'll have to get some aftermarket gauges and pods because I just don't think I can function without those meters. Where can I find them?

I'm I just too anal about it???

GSoccer24 11-29-2005 12:12 PM

coolant temp can be found by toggling through the DIC displays with the "i" button on the dash to the right of and behind the steering wheel; oil pressure is not displayed anywhere to my knowledge

I thought i had read something about gm releasing a 2 or 3 gauge setup that could be added above the stock boost gauge, not sure where i had seen it though.

Doc 11-29-2005 01:21 PM

I thought so too..

celicacobalt 11-30-2005 09:25 AM

ive never seen a car come with an oil pressure gauge yet but the coolant temp is in the dic screen

I think he meant that he hasn't seen a Cobalt with the Oil Pressure Gauge.

Oh yeah, and I found the coolant "gauge". I don't like it. I'm oldskool. I want a round gauge with a needle telling me that my coolant is good. I still want oil pressure dangit!!!

memphisr24 11-30-2005 10:06 AM

Don't vipers have oil guages? I know they have like 20 guages (exxagerationg) but a lot ofguages.

GSoccer24 11-30-2005 11:05 AM

350Z's have a stock multi-function gauge, oil pressure gauge, and voltmeter on top of the center of the dash...so there's at least 2 cars out there with it...

3fo893013L 11-30-2005 11:30 AM

My 94 Cavailer Z24 has an oil pressure gauge, temp gauge and Gas/RPM/Speedo.

VortecWes 11-30-2005 12:04 PM

My stock Chevy truck ('97) has the full 6 gauge compliment. I thought it was standard operating procedure to have those 6 gauges (MPH, Tach, Fuel, Oil Pressure, Water Temp., Volts). I was wrong...

The aftermarket will step up and we will be able to put whatever we want in our cars. I want a boost gauge on my n/a SS...:)

Same thing in my Dodge Truck & Trans Temp:spam:

Same in my '94 GMC 1500. 6 gauges. Stock! LOL

Yeah, i really want a oil pressure, and and hard mounted coolant temp gage on the A-pillar. They will be there someday but as of now, i dont tihnk anyone makes the pillar.

Your name is brian.

Serious, DIC has coolant temp. I don't think the 'balt has an oil pressure gauge. When I hook up my scan tool I don't get any reads on the oil pressure PID or was that oil temp....

My S10 Xtremes came with them. It's neat with watch the pressure rise when you step on the gas.

Mercury 12-01-2005 01:27 AM

Most cars these days come with less gauges because they have come to be more reliable.

Simply put, There was no question in the first post, that is what I was questioning.

DIC? Okay and what happens if it blows a fuse or malfunction? These are idiot lights pure and simple. I'd rather have a mechanical gauge. More more reliable, IMO. Mt 74 Formula is 31 years old, has a temp gauge and oil pressure guages and both work.

Mechanical is more reliable than electronic?

Lets review.

EFI > Carburators
Electric Powersteering > Hydralic Powersteering
Drive by wire > Drive by cable
Computer > Abacus

Well as far as "Reliabe" is concerned.. You are correct, the electronic IMO is better, If there is a problem with it, you will know right away because it will go all WONKEY. The last thing I want is a small line with high pressure motor oil feeding into my car...

hyperboimmv 12-19-2005 02:01 AM

Lets not forget the fact that the guages are not Mechanical to begin with. They are all electronic. If you unplug a guage cluster in, lets say a 95 Taurus, its all wires. No coils/cables comming from the speed sensors. You unplug the dash fuse, and nothing turns, nothing moves.

BooSSted 12-19-2005 02:12 AM

We have all the guages we need. There is no need for an oil pressure guage. All an oil pressure guage is going to do is tell you when you lose oil pressure. Well guess what, by the time your guage tells you that you have lost pressure it's already too late so what is the point, hahaha. My old car had an oil pressure guage and by the time it dropped, the crank was already having a feast on my bearings.
