Welded spoiler holes and trunk lock, filled them, and banged out a hood dent.

Tommorow starts the fiberglass custom lip spoiler

Day 2
Spoiler day. Pain in the ass! and tommorow will only be another pain in the ass

Picked up some fiberglass reinforced body filler, will be shaping the spoiler more tommorow, and making the ends that come off the side of the trunk come to more of a point, then just smoothing it all out and priming it and everything. Probobly take me all day to get it to look right.

SlowBalt_06 03-23-2010 04:33 PM

what kinda primer did you use...filler out of a spray can or a actual gun? looking for tips i just did mine

My girlfriend sat on it awhile ago to take a pic, when she slid off it pinched the metal at the very end and made a dent. Knew this question would come up so i took a vid http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y52...rent=009-4.flv

Real primer out of an actual gun. We cut a piece of sheet metal and welded it up behind it. Then dynaglass fiberglass filler over that, then just some bodyfiller to smooth it out. Then sprayed with primer surfacer. You need any tips let me know. Looks good now though

Shibito 03-23-2010 06:29 PM

lmao you have no idea how pumped i am. gonna look real cool. gonna be a pain and alot of sanding. And then after i get it all painted and cleared and i stand back and go "wow that looks cool." im gonna have to wet sand and then reclear it again

The pictures tommorow of how i do the fiberglass spoiler should be cool to look at. iv never fiberglassed something like that so it's gonna be a learning experience for me. Should be fun though and be cool to see what it looks like out the rearview mirror. Stay tuned!

What's the total cost of the class?

from $30 to thousands. My household spray guns consist of 2 harbor freight primer guns for $50, and a $115 Sharp Finex. Primer guns can be cheap, because primer always has to be sanded. So it can chunk and glob out and have all the texture in the world, as long as the paint makes it on the panel, you can work with the rest. Basecoat/clearcoat guns range in quality and what there made out of. They difference is how they spray, the fan pattern, the air pressure needed to get the proper spray, like HVLP guns (High Velocity Low Pressure), and just how well the gun atomizes the paint (how fine and evenly it breaks each paint droplet into a fine mist) For your average stuff, a $100 sharp finex will work and spray just perfect. If your going into business for this stuff, and your finish matching and blending metallics and shit you may want like a $600 Sata. Or a few of them.

06_SIC_SS 03-23-2010 07:17 PM

 i think ima do it

tanelk 03-23-2010 07:22 PM

how much is the paint going to cost you

Gestapo007 03-23-2010 07:26 PM

I dont know if your prepared to know how much its gonna cost

Ill take it right off the invoice:

1 Pint of SEM Mandarin Candy Concentrate- 47.74
3 Quarts of Coarse Metallic Silver - 134.61
2 Quarts of Deep Black - 61.15
5 Liter Clear/2.5liter Hardener kit - 184.72

I get a 10% discount since im going to school for it, so the final cost for all the paint materials is:

$415.27

I think im going to need a bit more clear though since im going to wetsand and reclear it after paint. Usually you do that after you spray candy's. SO it may jump up 30-50 bucks or so. Maybe not.

ChevyRockstar 03-23-2010 07:52 PM

good work, sub'd

Gald to see someone spending some money on some nice materials. Although I spent a lil more cause more colors LOL. I like the color your choosing. Orange is my fav color. We have the same plan for my girls Balt as well.

Also forgot to ask. You gonna shave off the antenna as well? I did the same thing with the trunk on mine and shaved the anttena off too and I think it looks super clean.

08ssedan 03-24-2010 01:17 AM

What kind of paint are you buying for that price??? My PPG DBC Victory Red is over $110 a quart with 10% off student discount.

Also from the looks of it I take it your repainting the whole car a two tone? Didn't really see the other threads you talked about this in.

I made the mistake of buying a 1.0 instead of a 1.2 and their tip kits cost $250. Expensive mistake. lol.

Red and orange is the most expensive pigment to buy. Thats why im doing a candy color instead of an Orange base. I heard that the red pigments are manufactured overseas in europe and there expensive to get, so thats why alot of red's are transparent. They like to use the least amount of pigment they can get. Paint store quoted me $600 for a gallon of orange base. Since im not color matching im just using Wanda coarse metallic silver which isnt expensive, and then buying the orange candy to mix in the clear and spray over it. Candy is $60 for any color. I dont know if you ever sprayed it before, but its kinda like nightshades and gives a cool effect. It tints the color orange, blue, etc. and gives it that depth because your looking through the orange and see the metallics shining through the silver beneath it. However many coats you put on and how you mix determines how dark the color gets.

And Sata is nice, Thats what we spray with in class. and damn thats an expensive tip lol.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y52...instripe-1.jpg

My buddy did his blazer with the same orange candy over silver, he did it a bit darker then i wanna do mine in the black he sprayed gold and 2 coats of orange. You can see the effect it gives in the black, but he sprayed alot of gold and orange and it turns the panel a shade of brown, so I wouldnt use nearly as much:
