Gestapo007's Paint Job Thread: Project Pumpkin

Been talking about it in several threads for awhile now. Im exited, and I finally started it. I will update it everyday I work on it. Just check back to see some progress!

DAY 1

Welded spoiler holes and trunk lock, filled them, and banged out a hood dent.

Tommorow starts the fiberglass custom lip spoiler

Day 2
Spoiler day. Pain in the ass! and tommorow will only be another pain in the ass

Picked up some fiberglass reinforced body filler, will be shaping the spoiler more tommorow, and making the ends that come off the side of the trunk come to more of a point, then just smoothing it all out and priming it and everything. Probobly take me all day to get it to look right.

Real primer out of an actual gun. We cut a piece of sheet metal and welded it up behind it. Then dynaglass fiberglass filler over that, then just some bodyfiller to smooth it out. Then sprayed with primer surfacer. You need any tips let me know. Looks good now though

lmao you have no idea how pumped i am. gonna look real cool. gonna be a pain and alot of sanding. And then after i get it all painted and cleared and i stand back and go "wow that looks cool." im gonna have to wet sand and then reclear it again

The pictures tommorow of how i do the fiberglass spoiler should be cool to look at. iv never fiberglassed something like that so it's gonna be a learning experience for me. Should be fun though and be cool to see what it looks like out the rearview mirror. Stay tuned!

from $30 to thousands. My household spray guns consist of 2 harbor freight primer guns for $50, and a $115 Sharp Finex. Primer guns can be cheap, because primer always has to be sanded. So it can chunk and glob out and have all the texture in the world, as long as the paint makes it on the panel, you can work with the rest. Basecoat/clearcoat guns range in quality and what there made out of. They difference is how they spray, the fan pattern, the air pressure needed to get the proper spray, like HVLP guns (High Velocity Low Pressure), and just how well the gun atomizes the paint (how fine and evenly it breaks each paint droplet into a fine mist) For your average stuff, a $100 sharp finex will work and spray just perfect. If your going into business for this stuff, and your finish matching and blending metallics and **** you may want like a $600 Sata. Or a few of them.

I dont know if your prepared to know how much its gonna cost

Ill take it right off the invoice:

1 Pint of SEM Mandarin Candy Concentrate- 47.74
3 Quarts of Coarse Metallic Silver - 134.61
2 Quarts of Deep Black - 61.15
5 Liter Clear/2.5liter Hardener kit - 184.72

I get a 10% discount since im going to school for it, so the final cost for all the paint materials is:

$415.27

I think im going to need a bit more clear though since im going to wetsand and reclear it after paint. Usually you do that after you spray candy's. SO it may jump up 30-50 bucks or so. Maybe not.
