getting off the main dash piece

I'm painting my interior all black, and when I went to take off the top dash, it wouldn't budge.

I've taken out all the 7mm bolts holding it to the mid dash, but when I try to lift up and out it's like it's attached somewhere else, maybe somewhere I can't get to?

Anyone know how to get that off? I don't want to keep jerking it and mess up (or blow) my airbag.

the airbag cover is what is catching it,you have to work it over that.

Yeah, this is an old topic, but I'm gonna bump it anyways.

I couldn't get it over the passenger airbag cover, it keeps catching on something.

Am I gonna end up blowing the airbag if I keep yanking on it? I don't seem to see the trick to it.

Its because the airbag cover is attached to the frame of the airbag. Its held on by metal hooks so yanking it will do no good. I ended up messing up the cover and had to cut it up it to get it out. Im putting in a new one now.
