GM Ground Effects Package (Sedan)

Heyas. Going to be purchasing Cobalt SS Sedan soon (before end of April) I really LOVE the style of the coupe - however - at my age the fact is that I have babies in the near future therefore the coupe just is not very "practical."
When I was at the last auto show the GM set up featured an SS Sedan with the GM Ground Effects Package, I checked out the option price and it's about $1200.00. I really want to drive a car that I still think is "cool" even though its a sedan and this package really made up for the whole "4-door" thing. I don't know whether the option is really worth the price to add. I am just wondering how easy it would be to add the Ground Effects Package after the fact? I am sure I could do much better on the price rather than obtaining it from the dealer - I am just concerned with the installation. I have a friend that can do the installation, I just want to know whether I should just take the hit with the option from the dealer if its going to be too much hassle after the fact. Any help / opinions would be appreciated

Hmmm....well the sign that sat beside the car pictured listed the car as having the ground effects package, chome door handle kit and chrome details kit (along the side)....There were some official pics on the GM website anyhow and I really prefer the look of the cobalt with the ground effects. Think I will just tack it on as an option and forget about adding it after the fact. I really like the chrome look too...

they may just put that to get your attention

it does have different bumpers than the LS/LT sedan so there is the difference...

but if you just stick to buying a Cobalt SS sedan then that is what you will get...

There's no "ground effects" package on the SS Sedan in those pictures. I've never seen the GM ground effects in person... but the few pictures I have seen on dealer brochures look alright.

Well not to get you to spend more money, but there actually IS a ground effects package.

"Ground Effects Package
This sporty ground effects package gives Cobalt Coupe (interim availability) and Sedan eye-catching custom-molded fascias designed and painted especially for your vehicle."

http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt/accessories/

It can be found at the above link. I don't know a price as it is Chevy's web site but you're not just chasing a pipe dream.

Happy shopping.

The GM "Ground Effects" kit is simply an overpriced lip kit. 900 bucks for a lip kit primed or 1200 painted... definately a rip. I would go with a real body kit AFTER you have the horsepower and takeoff to back the looks up.

ok i know this will probably get something started but I must state the obvious. It seems like everyone projects on everyone else what they want. In this case Kitten81 is looking for the ground effects kit because they like it. The point of this thread is for them to find information out about that option. This thread isn't for someone to tell Kitten81 what order they should do things to their car or anything of that nature. It's a pretty straightforward deal. I realize your opinion on the price of the ground effects kit is actually helpful because I do agree that it is over-priced, but in my opinion a bunch of attachments that don't really benefit the peformance of the car are overpriced no matter what. But thats not what my intent is to convey to Kitten. It is simply to inform so I feel that before people start throwing their opinions around unwarranted please just answer the question on the thread or just don't bother posting.

why are you buying a 4dr cobalt just to add a $1200 package?
there are better 4dr cars out there that are plenty sporty and fast.

not to discourage you from buying a cobalt and certainly not saying that wanting a cobalt is a bad decision. i just feel that if i wanted a 4dr i would have looked elswhere. my opinion

I am VERY picky and had a really hard time trying to find a car that I really liked. It came down to the Mazda 3 and a Cobalt (price range was most definitly a factor) Between those two I preferred the Cobalt SS Sedan. There isn't anything else out there that I would like to drive (other than an Acura which I really cannot afford) So - that is why I chose the Cobalt.

I did know there is an additional ground effects package for the Cobalt - however I was under the impression that the pics I had posted above showed that package. I was informed this is not true that the pics just have the standard SS body package. I compared the pics of the SS with and w/o the package and think I should just save myself the $1200 as I really like the normal SS body after all. Besides I want to keep the price low....

Is that lip kit you have listed there only for the non SS sedan model though?

This is an ancient thread but all of the links to pics are broken. Does anyone have pics of base models with the GM kit. Coupe preferred.
