just get sylvannia's, dont waste ur money on the $60 or whatever price bulbs though the ones in the fancy glass box... they look just like regulars.
that being said ur hids must have not been hooked up right in order to not provide you u with enough light

If you want awesome halogen bulbs, get yourself a set of silvania silverstars. Real nice white light, that look close to 4 or 5k hids. The only thing is they don't last long. I used to go through a set every year pretty much on my old grand am. I have been running them for a year now on my SS but I don't do a whole lot of night time driving, or just driving in general

he must have 80,000,000k Hids.
I had an old pair of 10,000ks and i popped them in my stock housing. Super bright but waaaay too blue for me. Surpisingly, 55w ballasts took them right in between 6-7k and they looked great, I wanted to get a pair of 6000k's and keep them on 55w but I went with retros.
And now,, I run 55w no name ballasts, on DDM 8000k bulbs, makes a perfect 6000k color, and are 10x brighter than 6000k 35w that ive had before. And these projectors ive run for 3 years now with 55w bulbs/ballasts, took them apart 6 months ago, no issues/peeling/coloration or anything. Got a good pair I guess.

Sounds like you should do something better with your girlfriend. Cant stand people like you, not to start a war but theres a great deal of us that dont give a **** about people like you that worship retro fits day in and day out and call people **** and ****s for putting hids in stock housings, thats what HIDplanet forums are like and its one of the reasons i dont lurk there unless i need help with a project. Its understandable that 15,000k 35w h4 hids suck **** in a 94 Civic with fluted lenses but you just cant group everyone together like that.
Yes, I have retros, because they are brighter. But i drove with 55w hids in stock housings of my last 3-4 cars and loved them, and couldnt give a **** about oncoming vehicles, i never blinded anyone to the point of danger.

You're right breds2k, it's not worth an argument or a war. People who can't afford the projectors, if done right, won't blind people too much (i.e. right color, pointed down). Provided, the light output is better on projectors. There are at least one or two OEM reflector non-projector housings that had HIDs in them from the factory... Like 2007 Prius... Acura/Honda legend.... That's why there's D2S for projectors... and D2R for reflectors IIRC.
To the OP... Is your bulb clicked all the way into the socket? I've had an issue with that in the past where it wouldn't project right because the bulb wasn't in so the reflector would be way off. Also, are you using stock housings or aftermarket (i.e. Depot) OEM replacements?

arguing that some cars have reflector hids is kind of moot, they use some variant of a Dbased bulb, which has a cover over the hotspot, I read something on another forum that guys were trying to paint a similar cover on the bulb using high temp paint, but it didnt work 100%

Because I don't like people who blind the **** out of other cars to look "cool"? And how do you know you've never blinded someone, I guarantee you have. I don't worship retros at all, I don't have retros I just have projectors. And If you can't afford projectors don't get HID's it's that simple.
Anyways, I hate people like you so were even

Seriously, if adjusted correctly, with the way our reflector headlights are setup, YOU WILL NOT blind on coming traffic. I've been blinded more by SUVs and Trucks with projectors + HIDs than I have by cobalts with HIDs in their stock housings adjusted correctly. I also had 6k HIDs in my stock housing LS adjusted correctly for 4 years and did not ever get flashed (unless I had hi-beams) on.
In all honesty, people just need to learn how headlights work before jumping into conclusions. Saying HIDs in ALL reflector headlights is "***" is like saying that every exhaust that has cylindrical muffler design is "rice".
