Canada Headlight Brightness Question

Hey all,

I have been trying a few diffrent headlight to get the brightest one and are not having any success. it seams that the more i pay for a bulb the crapper it is. I have tried the following:

Nokya 5000K
Nokya 7000k
Silverstar CoolBlue
Silverstar ExtaVision (4100K)
Silverstar Ultra (4400K)
GE NightHawk Two diffrent ones

I dont want to try the PIAA as they are 100.00 for the bulbs. It seams that the higher the price is for the bulb the lower the kelvin, but if you read about the HID's the lower the number the brighter the bulb is.

I just bought the cheepest Silverstar bulbs and they seam better then any i have had so far. Can anyone shed some light on this lissue please.

stock lights and housing isnt that great. but with the right aiming and bulb it does get a lot better. i have the cool blue as you listed and it works great for me, most of the time. i wish i had fog lights to help with more light in the country side with no street lights. so i just run high beams to compensate lol

you can get bi-xenon and retain your high beams. You don't want to put the HID's in the stock housing though. You'll blind oncoming cars and run the risk of causing an accident

X 2, all those bulbs you posted stink, PIAA has some decent ones but even then MEH and as expensive as a HID kit... with my HID's I don't even need the high beams...I don't know about cobalts but the sunfire housings have metal scatter shields to cut off the light above a certain height, so they do not glare at all.

i have silverstar ultras, im happy with them. they did burn out after 10 months, but they all have a 1 year in store exchange, so i got another pair. i had piaa's in the last car, loved them just couldnt justify twice the price of the silverstars. i will go back to piaa again once these silverstars burn out.

I like HID's, I know they are illegal so you always have that worry when around cops, but the light output makes it worth it for me... silverstars I'll never buy those ever again, crap.. they burn out so fast, big hassle, 10 months is pretty good you really lucked out.

Okay, I am not THAT bad, but I do feel similarly. For the best light output, you will want OEM projectors from an HID equiped vehicle retrofitted into your headlights.

Compare...

Stock G6 Headlights (both on)

OEM RX330 projector with 4300k OEM HID lamp (just one)

I don't care how well your stock headlights cut off the halogen light, they are not designed to handle an HID lamp. A regular halogen bulb and HID bulb each emit light from different points of the bulb. The halogen reflector is designed with the halogen bulb filament location. This is not in the same location as the arc in an HID bulb, therefor the optics (chrome reflector) will not work the same.

Not being inconsiderate at all, there is no glare or scatter, in fact the light pattern is the exact same as stock, same areas of road lit up, just brighter...I have not been highbeamed once by oncoming drivers... but HID's in the wrong housings where they blind you, I agree with you I want to beat them up too.

Bullshit, they work fine, at least with my housings..they do not blind other drivers (never been highbeamed once either), and the light pattern is same as stock, same areas of road lit up, same light pattern shape, just brighter obviously...when I installed the HID's I lowered the light beams to ensure I was not blinding anyone and was lighting up the very front of the car only, couldn't see the road... moved lights back up to stock angle and they were perfect.

HID's in stock housing are fine. I run them, No-one flashes their lights at me. As long as you dont have them aimed straight up in the air, and they're at the ground like they're meant to be, you have nice, clear vision, and our cars are low enough that it doesn't hurt a thing. If you were in a lifted silverado with HID's in stock housings, yeah, you're gonna destroy the world, BUT you're in a cobalt.
I LOVE my HID's in my Stock housings, so basically, what i'm saying is. Don't listen to the ppl who say:

OH NOEZ HIDS IN TEH STOCK HOUSINGZ IS TEH SUCKZORS YOU'LL DESTROY THE WORLD!!!!

All you need is to aim them down about 1 degree, and you'll seriously be fine. They glare, but big deal. If it was so dangerous, it wouldnt be so easy to pass inspection w/ them.

I think anyone that makes blanket statements that apply to everything are idiots...YES HID's in many housings create terrible glare and blind people, YES HID with projectors are the ideal setup, but that doesn't apply to every car, if the HID's didn't work so well in my housings, I would have pulled them out.

IDK what you say there is terrible glare coming from your headlights. I don't even have to see them to make that statement. I've never seen any HID's in non HID housings that didn't and believe me there are about a million jackasses driving around my area with them in...

ASSUME makes an ASS out of U and ME, ever heard it? There is no terrible glare that you speak of and since you're making assumptions, you have no idea if they do, therefore your argument is weak.

OK enough arguing, but I have seen my car driven by my gf, driven past it head on, and had it behind me..not even a sparkle of glare.
