Help with a retro fit

So i have been doing a retrofit using Murano Bi Xenon projectors and have run into a problem. I have one of the lights finished and wanted to test it out before I installed everything completely. I made the Wiring harness myself and everything worked fine for about about 30 seconds and the diode I used between the High and Low beam wire started smoking and overheated. My question is, does anyone know the correct size diode to put between the High and Low beam wires that will not overheat and break? I have looked around on HIDPlanet and people who built retrofits before used an IN4003 Diode from radio shack. Its Rated for 200V-1A. I'm sure the 200 volts is good enough. Would I need to get a diode to handle more Amps? or has anyone who had done a retrofit the way I am done this before?

right now I Just have the low beams hooked up for the time being.

I have them hooked up like that for now just so i can have low beams right now to drive at night. the harness I made looks like this:

with just the low beam hooked up everything works just fine. I just don't have high beams because the diode melted on me, so i just pulled the high beam wire out and just have the low beams hooked up.
