Wrong. The brightest HID's are about 4100-4300K
Dude, Archplasm is right, go get a physics text.

It is possible that some lower K bulbs are brighter than some higher K bulbs, and vice verse. You can't possibly tell me that a 50W 4100K bulb is going to be brighter than a 1000W 6000K bulb of the same design.

My SVT Focus had factory HID's (4500k). they were badass! But TRUE HID's need a whole new housing, not just a bulb replacement. On the SVT Focus, HID's were a $450 option..but if you bought aftermarket, the kits are $950!! Now that my friends, is a true HID kit!

you had blue bulbs
totally different

ive heard if you put HID's in normal headlight housings, there is too much glare and they are ineffective

supposedly the McCulloch brand i have has the least amount of glare out of all the kits, im not sure if its true or not but there is a night and day difference between normal aftermarket bulbs and this HID kit i have, its so much better, not only have i had eurodezigns bulbs, ive also had silverstars, silverstars are yellow compared to these HID's, ill post pics in a sec of the differences

A couple of my friends have HID Kits on Nissan SE-R Spec V's and said they would never go back. They are very bright and look awesome driving down the road. Did you lose your High Beam functionality?

Very true. You can't put a Xenon HID bulb in a halogen projector or reflector(cobalt) You need to have a xenon projector which was designed to distribute the light properly.

I did a retrofit of an e46 projector in my cougar a while ago, turned out great.

Not to start an argument or anything, but HID lights do not need projectors. Look at the Escalade. My mom's EXT doesn't have projectors. I think it is one of the only factory setups I have seen that don't have projectors, but never the less GM sold the SUV like that. I would do this to my LS when I get it, but, right now, I don't think it would be feasable. I love the way HID's light up the roadway. Someone posted earlier about heat etc. I thought HID's didn't give off as much heat as Halogen lamps? I mean if you have a 50w HID bulb putting out the same lumens as a 100w Halogen, wouldn't there be less heat given off? It's like this: if you have one toaster that produces 850watts, and another toaster that produces 1000watts, which would darken the toast faster? I like HIDs also because of the fact that even though the are in the ten thousands range in volts, they only use the certain amount of watts therefore saving you on gas when the lights are on. It isn't anything noticeable, but if you add the cost of fuel up for one year with each set-up, you would be saving money. I guess it is something that matters with the long run.. (Dont mind the jumping everywhere.. It is 1:20 am and I am pretty much asleep at the keyboard..)

you would notice a difference in gas milage over a year because of using a HID kit, and save money (even after you pay $300+ for a kit)? muhahahahahahahhaaaa

No, I am not saying after you get a kit. If you have 2 models (say they are both Focus's), one has the HID lights, the other doesnt. Both cars are identical except for that option. You look at the exact amount of fuel you use in one year for both, and see if there isnt the slightest difference. Both cars are driven the same, both are used the same. There is going to be a difference.. Look at all the studies proving that. Just like with the studies about DRL's using more energy, consuming more gas. It may be a fraction, but still.. It is true...

I dont care about No gas milage. Those who buy HID kit wont be thinking about spending 300dlls on hids so they can save 20dlls a year on gas. Now, People put body kits and pay 1000 dlls because they like it. So whats wrong buying a set of HIDs which looks super cool and has more use than a body kit. I really dont get all these people saying that HIDs are a waste of money and they are only a set of unnessesary pair of bulbs. If I had the money i would get my HID kit right NOW. Oh well i got to wait till iget payed next friday. LOL.
Peaz out guys.
Drive safe.

HID (metal halide with is used in cars) will generate more heat watt per watt in comparison with a halogen. Halogens opperate simular to a regular incandescent bulb that you find in your house. The reason a metal halide bulb will generate more heat it from the gases enclosed in the bulb and the way the element "burns". The extra heat is seen if you ever seen a metal halide bulb that was touched by a finger and body oil was deposited on the glass. When this occurs on a metal halide bulb the oil "focuses" heat where the oil is at and the bulb will explode at that point. The explosion is not from the pressure of the gas inside the glass, but more like the release of an explosive gas once the glass breaks. The reason halogen bulbs are sooo much hoter than regular incandescent bulbs is due to how closes the elements are to one and another and from the bulbe being so compact. So, in summery, yes you have a heat issue when you change over to HID bulbs.

I was not saying that they were a waste of money. If I had the money, they would have been in my Sebring, also. I was just simply stating something. If anything I would by them for the looks. But the fact that they have alot more visibility than regular headlights is a plus.
