Hey guys as some of you know I just got my CF hood in today, now I need hood pins, I have the set but I don't want to go drilling into a hood I just spent a **** load of money on, so I was going to have it professionaly done, but these guys want like $150 to install the damn pins, I say **** that...

does anyone know of anywhere cheaper, like alot cheaper?

I will never again have a CF hood without hood pins, but that's just me. I had a VIS Invader hood on my Cavalier, and the fiberglass on the bottom side of the hood cracked in the area of the latch when I was going down the interstate. At about 75mph, the hood flew hood, cracked the front windshield, bent the hood arms, and splintered the CF hood as well. Hood pins may not look great, but they do serve a purpose sometimes

 

you need aero latch hood pins they dont look bad at all. you actually barley notice them. you still need to cut the hood up but you wont regret the look sorry for the thread jack

Ok all of you smartasses can **** off, a CF hood requires hood pins... I'm not going to risk ******* my brand new hood up, due to the latch cracking.

You'd be a complete moron if you DO NOT run hood pins on any carbon fiber OR fiberglass hood.

When you drill a CF hood, you need to use a step drill bit so you don't **** up the fabric.

 

Some CF Hoods do not require hood pins. ViS hoods have reinforced latches so that pins are not required. If you have a cheaper CF hood that doesn't have a reinforced latch then yes you should have pins. In any case pins are a good idea for added security.

Yeah I'm not wanting hood pins just for looks, I'm just afraid of my hood flying up on me when i'm going down the road, I do alot of interstate driving and I don't want to risk anything, the hood was expensive as ****, I don't need to destroy it any time soon.

I'm going to try to call some local body shops and see what they can do for me.

Thought about it, but hell I kinda like the look of hood pins... for some reason. plus it's going to be expensive as **** to have those installed, I'm too afraid of messing something up that's why i'm going to have a pro do it for me.

Errr......no they don't. I have several friends with daily driven cars w/ carbon fiber hoods.....none of them have hoodpins.

 

not all of them do but some it would be a smart idea maybe they all have been lucky or they have ones with reinforced hood latches but it a smart idea to have them.

 

No offense but your friends are morons. Is it that hard to understand the fiberglass, whether reinforced or not, is not as strong as metal. The latch bolts can easily pull right out of the fiberglass or the fiberglass can crack. I've seen it happen a few times. It's like a ticking bomb that has no timer.

 

I see many cars with CF hoods running around without hood pins, but I want them just for peace of mind, I know if i don't get hood pins it doesn't mean my latch will break but with my luck it probably will so I'd rather not leave a chance of that happening.

 

ive had a carbon fiber hood for 4 years an no cracks whatsoever! juzt dont slam it and youll be fine.

 

Hey guys I have another question... for you guys with the CF hoods, my g/f told me that there's a special wax I can get for my hood to keep it from fading out and looking like ****, have any of you heard of this? I haven't...



also I don't know if it's a fitment issue or what but when the hood is latched, and I go to open it the hood jumps up violently when I pull the latch from the inside of the car... is this normal? I'm thinking it's cuz the hood is so much lighter than the stock hood....

 

it wont always come from slamming your hood the force of the wind pushing up underneath your hood can also cause them to crack.... its all from stress on the CF

 

It's not actually stress on the carbon fiber. 99% of carbon fiber hoods have fiberglass bottoms. Fiberglass is not as strong as carbon fiber.
