so yes.. you read it right!
had these retrofits in for the longest time (way back to when I owned by LT), but was never a true fan on black headlights on red.. not that it looked bad, but in general i was just sick of black after owning a murdered out car

so sold I sold them.. now onto the build.. decided I wanted to keep it OEM appearing with a few custom touches..
so i painted the cutoff shield red to give this effect during the right lighting

and then there was that ugly orange side marker.. now whats a guy suppose to do with that.. painting it any color would look shitty... so chrome plating it was! now I got this as a result! much better

will be installing tonight once I finish putting the lenses on!

havent seen too many pics of cutoff shields painted (even on hidplanet) but I think the cutoff shields look really good either as an accent color if you have one, or colormatched to the body of the car.. they look dumb if its neither of those colors lol
colormatched is probably my favorite (just so happens red is also what I've been painting everything as well) lol

they it alot on hidplanet, the 4.1+ gens of mini h1's come powdercoated black and look SWEET, and actually do have a more crisp output with a tad less fuzziness around the cutoff, painting makes a difference!

apparently the have a few "improvments" such as:
27mm nut to tighten projector into place, instead of that wierd nut thingy lol
foreground limiters built in
"improved" plating in the reflector dish

I had the 3.0's on my last retro (i think). and honestly I couldnt tell whether or not I had my HID fogs on or not, there was THAT much foreground light from the 3.0's. It was insane, not necessarily in a good way
now with the 5.0's I can easily tell the difference of when HID fogs are on or off.. basically turning the fogs on (adding all that foreground light) is my way of making this retro seem like my last one with the 3.0's
It's gotta be a lot better to see long distance with that. I know when I turned my brights on with my minis, they didn't do much, my halogen brights on my Evo are much better than those were.
