interior light wiring question

Alright, searched for days on the forum and tried like every wire on my inside fuse box. Cannot figure out which wire going into the fuse box is for the dome light.
Trying to install a few interior lights for my floor but I want them to go on and off when my door opens and when I shut my car off. So on and so forth. Do I need to find out which wire comes off my bcm to allow this to happen? I just thought of that actually..
I looked in the wiring diagram in the hanes and I only found wires for the door jamb switches.
Any suggestions or if anyones already done this you should chime in.

Thanks in advance.

If you have map lights the wiring runs along the roof on the drivers side near the sunroof. It is a constant positive with a switched ground. I don't think you can do it off the fuse box because I believe the
Fuse box holds the positive only and the ground is controlled by the bcm

No map lights on my car. Got an ls. So I'd have to ground my lights from the ground on my dome light? that makes it a bit more fun.. Where is the bmc located do you know?

Did a quick search on Google, and came up with this diagram. Looks like the BCM is on the passenger side of the car by the left foot. Here is a diagram (i think):

Also found this on here as well. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/5333005-post16.html

Hope that helps you out a bit.

Funny that you ask, I'm currently doing the same thing in my car lol. I'm going to finish it this week; all my wiring is done to a regular switch so my lights are working. Just have to add the ground from the bcm. My friend did his last week in his tiburon and his lights are working fine with his doors. I have the haynes books so i could always scan you the wing pages for the bcm

Thanks vette I've been screwing with the wires coming out of that the whole time. Didn't think it would be the bcm though, lol. I've tried I'm pretty sure every hot wire coming out of it. As well as the brown. The only wire that opens a circuit with hot that I could figure out was the one that controled the light sensor that controled the headlights. that would be a dead wire until my lights popped on.
I'm not looking for the accessory wire either, I need the courtesy lights or whatever they may call it wire. And I found it in a random diagram from good but it listed 4 bcms they would have bcm c1, c2, c3 and c4. Not sure what that was all about. Found the wire in c3 but isn't in my bcm.
micro, if you figure this **** out let me know. I wont really have time to dick with it until wednesday.

Why not run them from your dome light and down the a pillar? You know where to find them and they will even dim with the dome light that way.

I could do that. I think the wiring goes down my drivers pillar so I could probably even find it after the pillar somewhere and connect them there.

Don't use a relay or if you do you may have to put a cap into the line. The circuit uses pwc and it will make a relay buzz as the circuit dims. If you are adding led lights you should be fine just adding them into the circuit. If it pops a fuse just change your dome light to a led and the total amperage including the new LEDs will probably be lower than stock.

my interior LEDs turn on any time the map lights are on (except when you manually press the button for them to go on).. so anytime you open either door they go on, then they fade off once you shut the door after like 15 seconds.. i love them because of how useful they are with not having to press any button to turn them on or **** like that

thanks padlock. I'll have to see If I have these wires I don't have map lights. At least if those are the lights under your rear view mirror.

I added a dome light to my car because the sunroof models dont come with dome lights. I soldered the wires for my courtesy lights to the lamp holder in the dome light. My mirror lights come on when you open the door. The dome light can be set to either come on when the door is open, be off all the time or stay on all the time depending on where the switch is on the dome light. The courtesy lights do exactly the same as what I have the dome light set for.

Scottie- you should be able to just solder the wires to both sides of the lamp holder in your dome light and your courtesy lighting will mirror whatever you dome light does along with dimming after you close the door..

Question, I am also putting some LED's near the peddles and behind the rear seat.. Do I have to ground them to the gray wire to make them dim like the map light, or can I just ground them to the nearest factory ground??

I think you should be able to use the factory ground that's near by. If you can, try to "test" it before making something permanent. I used a new ground for my 3rd gen projectors (yes I know we are talking about interior lights here), and it worked out fine. Just make sure the connection is good.
