Keyedd

Hi everyone..

I park at on my high school's campus.
yesterday i noticed someone had keyed my trunk, one nice line going from taillight to taillight.
I already filed a police report and they are working to see if they can figure out who this little punk was. Probably won't find who it was since my school is crappy and there is only like 1 security camera, and i dont think it even watches the whole parking lot. The cop took down all of my information, registration, drivers lisence, took pics of the damage... He said an investigator will call by the end of next week. He asked if they found the person responsible, do i want them in trouble? i automatically told him yes. So if im lucky, this ******* will be arrested.

Either way, i'd like to try and get the damage outta there, cheapest way.
Definitely not buying a new trunk for this...
The key-line is while. so i dont think it made it all the way down to the metal.
Touchup paint?
its a black balt, so just oem gm black?

and what works best? a pen?

thanks everyone

Depends how deep it is. What is that you're saying about a pen?

hmm... you may be fortunate and it may just be a clear coat scratch. You can try using a rotary buffer and a light to mid grade polish like Menzerna p045d to buff it out. It could come right out, if its deeper than that, it may not be fixable without a repaint and depending on your deductable, it may be worth filing an insurance claim and getting a cf trunk or a repaint.

what I did when I got keyed was
go to the store and get
- 2000 grit sandpaper wet/dry
- POLISHING COMPOUND (not rubbing compound)
- Some applicator pads, and micro fiber cloths

now go on youtube and look at 'scratch removal' and watch the technique they use by we tsanding and such, don't use touch up paint it makes it look so much more awful.

a high speed buffer is nice, otherwise your gonna have to have a sore as arm
I got most of my scratches out, but make sure it is always wet when sanding, not alot of pressure, up&down or circular motions only.

My roomate got keyed by his ex-gf years ago when he still had his firebird.... Techincally, it was her friend who she baited into doing it for her. Then when the cops called to question her, she threw him straight under the bus. Stupid bastard deserved it, but I hated that the bitch got away with it.

Regardless, my buddy got a whole new paint job out of it on the punks dime, so it certainly could have been worse. Hopefully you have the same luck!

the other day i went back to speak to the same officer who wrote up the police report for me to see if he had any news for me.
he told me that he watched 8 hours plus of surveillance tapes. he said there were points in the recordings where there were students near my car and he had spoken to them but none of them had any knowledge of this... duh.

he asked me if i had gotten an estimate from my insurance company. i told him i did not, mainly because the deductible would not cover the cost. he said to get the estimate anyway, as the cost may be more than the deductible and with the police report, the rates would not go up due to it being a crime.

so - thats the end of that. the ******* who did this got away with it, and gets to see me come to school everyday with an ugly scratch going across my entire trunk.

f uck.

Lol, people (from my experience) that got their car keyed are ******** that got what was coming to them. Some dude at my school kept using his car to honk and scare people in the mornings. People like them got it coming to them. Tried to pull him out of his car and fight him one day after he scared me and I spilled my coke on myself but he locked the door and wouldn't come out.... panzy ass. Never heard of a random keying though. Just try not to **** anyone off in school man. Your baby will be safe as long as you're a good guy

i havent tried to fix it yet, i was waiting on the case to be, closed before i touched anything really. im not an ******* to anyone, im well liked!
and also, according to insurance - im not driving! the rates would soar if they found out the 17 year old male is the primary driver of this car

Shouldn't matter who was driving, technically no one was. It's an act of vandalism covered under the comprehensive policy.

It wouldn't matter if it was a crime or not. The location in which it was at during the crime dictates the coverage. Why would someone (Presumably his father) be in a Student's Parking lot in a High school for extended amount of time? Most adjusters wouldn't even offer a new replacement but an OEM replacement from a recycled car (Salvage Title without a color match)

Just be careful about it and the OP is right about the insurance thing. If an unauthorized operator didn't drive the vehicle to the location, the crime wouldn't have happened.

Doing the wet sand method shown in the youtube video works, I used 2000 grit and some meguirars ultimate compound, had the scratch buffed out in 15mins (few short breaks in there). Although the ultimate compound maybe enough to get rid of it if its shallow.

And about the insurance, look at being a secondary driver (to and from work or school is what the insurance says) you'll be covered but won't be paying out the a$$.
