That should work on cooling.

What about like an evo? That spot on the front of the hood?

ECaulk 06-24-2016 03:35 PM

I think you want to go one section closer to the hinge. Maybe Adrian will chime in on where he was planning on cutting up a carbon fiber hood for cooling

I looked there first, but that would leave one right over my fuse box. I really didnt want to open that up and have rain pouring onto the fuse box. Where I circled leaves little that matters, or doesnt already, get wet.

I haven't really dove into where to make the vents yet. Powell was going to make suggestions. I know he's not on here much anymore. I'll ask him and report back!

Thank you!

Would the vent on top of the intake like a K&N intake help with airflow at all?

I think he is trying to get air flowing under hood to help dissipate heat, not get his k&n filter soaked in a rain shower.

blueLNFftw 06-25-2016 08:50 AM

Correct. I need heat out.

Also, my filter will be moved soon as the new turbo is getting a Hahn CAI.
The intake in the car now is an old Dejon intake wrapped in reflective gold heat tape.

I do not want any sort of "ram air" vent or anything. The pollen and sheets of rain here make that a bad option.

Has anyone ever cut painted metal before? Is the paint probe to cracking when I cut?

ECaulk 06-25-2016 10:36 AM

The paint shouldn't crack, it will most likely burn though. If you can find a water jet cutter that can do it that may help prevent paint burning. Although the cost may be even with getting the hood re-painted.

Did that gold foil make a difference on heat soaking? I've always wondered about it, I know the silver stuff makes a bit of a difference. Just couldn't spend the amount for the gold without some additional evidence/proof

Here's a Cobalt hood that was done by Powell. I'm not sure if those vents are still available but it shows the location at least. I love the OEM look of it especially on a CF hood :lock:

That looks really good!! Powell should move to the states lol

ECaulk 06-25-2016 12:00 PM

Those look like pretty generic vents, I'm sure they're still available

ECaulk 06-25-2016 12:13 PM

To be honest they look like boat louvered vents. The louver will work much better for heat extraction than just a mesh panel

blueLNFftw 06-25-2016 01:07 PM

I guess I don't know the proper terms to google up a set that's not some gay Autozone tape on panel.

Originally I was looking for louvers when I came across the mesh. The louver panels would cover any burn or crack in the cuts

ECaulk 06-25-2016 01:17 PM

Lol, I had to dig through those to find some decent ones, automotive louvers turned up a few good results. I'll pm you later one page I found that has a wide range of louvers. (Since they're not a vendor and Extreme Dimensions is and they kinda have those products)

It will burn and the edge will look awful.

blueLNFftw 06-26-2016 01:26 PM

Damn.

Well looks like I'll snag a hood from the local LKQ yard during a half off sale. It'll cost like $30. I found someone to paint it yesterday for about $150.
