my headlights...again
my headlights...again
so i finally have a day off work and i'm thinking about swapping out my headlights for the set i bought off ebay in which i painted black. some may remember this thread...

i'm thinking about going ahead and tearing the lenses off my original set so i could have a matching pair for my new set but i want to make sure that they do not leak. how can i do that? i kept the stock sealant on the set i painted and when i put them back together it looked like there may have been a few trouble spots so i added some sealant that i picked up at autozone which seems pretty crappy. i was peeling it off the table the other day after the tube exploded on me and it seems to come off way too easily. i don't want the same to happen to my lights. so for everyone who's taken their's apart, what are you using to re-seal them and how well are they holding up?

use high heat gasket sealer. i bought it at advanced auto part.. it comes in clear and black.. i used black bc my headlights are black. clear wont show up at all though i wish i wouldve used that that...bug like i said gasket sealer, nothing seals better than that!
i ended up going out to autozone again this morning to pick up some more sealant. i don't remember what kind it is off the top of my head but it looks like it'll hold up nicely compared to the other stuff. i'll post some pictures when i put the lights back in later today
it took a while but everything is back on and fully fuctional. i forgot to plug the wires back in when i put the passenger side on so i had to take it back out. that alone took about 20 minutes because i couldn't get the light out. anyway...

and

i don't know how noticeable it is in the pics but both lights have a bit of fog in them. i ran to the store when i was done and noticed when i got back and took pictures. anyone know how can i get rid of it? i sealed the hell out of them. i left the original stock sealant on and then i added some of that stuff i bought today. i even sprayed them with water and they didn't leak then

that fog could be from even a small gap behind where the bulb plugs in, i see its snowy out so there is a lot of moisture in the air at the moment so it will happen. Mine does it occasionally fresh out of the box brand new. Now that your sealant is dry, if there is still space down in those gaps, it wont hurt to run another layer of sealant over that first layer.
the fog was gone a few hours after i took those pictures. i did some running around this morning and they're still clear as day. i'm thinking maybe it was just the temp. change from the house to outside. i may just swing by the car wash later and see how well everything holds up
