Still my least favorite headlight housings. Very nice selection of HID products and color though.

Your hid kit will long outlast your headlight housings. At least if you ever wanna switch to retrofits youve already got a good kit that will work

You have the same ones as me. Did you wire up the halo rings?

I'm interested to see how your wonderfully crafted ebay projectors will hold up to a legitimate 50w HID kit. some guys with MH1's had peeling issues a while back when running 50w, I'd be scared to try them in a lesser quality projector

Are those 9006 bulbs or H1?

I only ask because my headlights have H1 bulbs but I was wanting to retrofit back to 9006s from TRS.

is there a difference in the bulb performance/apperance or just the wiring from 9006 to H1?

Hid bulb wiring from h1 to 9006 would actually be the same all hid bulbs actually need to connect to the ballast are the amp connections. The capsules should be the same if they're both the same brand bulb, however, the base of the bulb where it fits into the headlight is very different. Also, what do you mean by "convert to 9006?" Im confused a bit by that

When I bought the car it had aftermarket headlights on it similar to the picutres the op posted. I was thinking about retrofitting new projectors, shrouds (the whole bit) back to the 9006 bulb. My thought was that it would make wiring easier.

Does that make sence or am I way off?

Ok well there's part of my confusion. The stock bulb is a 9007 not a 9006. When you do a retrofit, you will need to use whatever size bulb the projector you choose uses. Which will be either an h1 bulb that the mini h1 uses, or otherwise it will use a d1s, d2s, d3s, or d4s bulb, which are the only size bulbs a true hid projector uses. A typicall retrofit kit will come with a harness that will adapt to your cars factory wiring, which will make everything completely plug and play

Tldr, dont worry about using a specific bulb size, the relay harness will take care of it

Well it looks like I was the recipient of some bad info. The guy I took it to told me it had 9006 connectors. I had read that the stock cobalt has 9007s but I trusted him. The connectors that are there are definately stock.

Long story short, I can keep the H1 bulbs, replace the ballasts and be good?

If the lights are still working you can use the same ballasts too. Ballasts are universal

Yes, to all who have stated it, I realize these housings are not stellar quality by any means. I did not have the time to build or want to spend the money on retrofits at the moment.

The lady who i purchased the car from had her husband put HID's in the car for her. Which happened to be one of those cheap ebay kits, and he used housings pretty much the same as these. The lenses were all dull and faded, and the light output was terrible, so i had to do something.

These are pretty much the same headlight housings although the actual projectors do seem to be a slightly better build quality, and i do like the smoked lense look these have in the day time. Eventually I will most likely want to do a good quality retrofit, but i want lights that work in the mean time.

I've never really been a fan of these type headlights either, but i have to admit i think these have a pretty wicked look at night, like a creature that is coming to eat you.

Yes they are wired up, they just aren't very bright b/c of what they are and how bright the lights around them are. You can see them lit up from the side more like in the second picture. They have a more stealth look the way they are, and aren't over powering, atleast thats what i tell myself so i can live with it lol.

That's the thing, there never was a ballast installed. I'm sure that may have a little to do with why they don't work properly.

if you don't have ballasts then you don't have hid bulbs. It's completely impossible to have working hid bulbs without a ballast. You must still have the stock halogen bulbs that come in them.

They don't work, that's why I wanted to retrofit with new projector, bulbs, shrouds, the whole nine. But if all I gotta do is install the ballasts, that would be great.

Is there a halogen version of the H1? Cuz the H1 is in there now. The headlight is the gen 1 setup.
