Check out my Winterized Cobalt SS/SC.. Got my winter wheels and tires from tire rack. I purchased the Dunlop Graspic DS-2, 215/60-16.. $74.00 Each and The Wheels.. i'm not sure what brand, maybe Mille Miglia or something... They were $75.00 Each.. Doesn't look too bad.. Check them out:

Those wheels do look good. I am waiting on a set of Continental snow tires, but I went with steels for now ($60/each, at the time I ordered I wasn't working enough to cover the extra $$$, the cheapest I could find otherwise was $100/each). I think I might switch to regular wheels next time I replace the snow tires.

I picked up that same set from tirerack too, I but the blizzak revo 1's on them tho. I'm also painting them black. I'm not too fond of the two wheels tirerack had to offer. But hey what the hell they're only gonna be on, to get beaten up during the winter.

Well the 215/60/16s are an inch bigger in diameter, but I think it's the bigger sidewall that makes them look ready to go off roading. Personally I don't care what winter wheels/tires look like, as long as they keep me out of ditches and from sliding into other cars!!!!!!

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S (Ultra High Performance All-Season)

as long as you dont live in mountains you should be good with these and they are good enough for the track too read the reviews! snow tread is at 7.5 out of 10
dry traction is at 9.0 out of 10 and wet is 8.7

Well since I live in Buffalo, NY I needed a set of tires with somewhat decent snow rating since we get a lot of lake effect which sucks. Plus the dunlop's were $30.00 cheaper. I had the Dunlop WinterForce M3's on order but they were back ordered and Tire Rack didn't know when they were coming in. The reason I had the M3's on order was because they came with a $50.00 rebate which in the end the M3's would have cost $89.00 each. The M3's were $101.00 normally. They are winter tires and I'm not going to be whippin' around my SS/SC like I would in the summer time.

I'm not sure yet. Hasn't snowed yet. The snow traction listed for the Dunlop Graspic DS-2 is a 8.7 out of 10. Definately need a good rating for up here in Buffalo. It looks like they raised my car about 1.5 inches. I know the tires definately raised the car but not sure how much. The ride is very plush, I don't feel everything like I did with the 18's and PZero's. Obviously because of the bigger sidewalls on the winter tires

I'm from southwestern VA and we get some snow, not really awhole lot. Should I stay with the stock ones or go for winter tires myself?

Pirelli SnowSport

I went with these on 17" wheels. I wanted something very capable in the snow without sacrificing too much performance on dry pavement. Winter on the west side of Cleveland is very touch and go. We don't get as much lake effect as the east side but we still can see a healty amount at the drop of a hat. Also, I work on 2nd shift and drive home in the middle of the night. If it does snow, the plows are usually not out on the roads yet.

I'm going to use my stock rims for Winter and put a set of Bridgestone BLIZZAK LM-22 215/45VR18 performance winter tires on them. They are V Rated and are good to 149 MPH I highly doubt I will test this fact in the snow but it is still nice to know. I have ordered a new set of summer rims and will put my Pirelli's on them.

Are those snow tires or all season?
Also, do you guys think it's a good idea to put snow tires on 17's?

I dont want to spend the extra money on a set of tires and rims for the wintertime, so I am going to use my stock rims. I just want to purchase a set of tires that will allow me some free spirited driving (winters arnt usually that bad arround ehre, just your 3-5 storms of snow and ice usually). I've heard analogies of "Like being on iceskates on the ice or snow" for hte cobalts / redlines. I definately dont want that. I want a nice set of tires that will give me performance but decent+ snow traction. I was thinking about the M S's anyone have another recommendation? Has to go on stock rims.

let me know

I think 17s are OK, I personally wouldn't put them on 18s because I'd be too afraid of bending a rim (thanks to Pittsburgh's car-eating potholes). I went with 16s myself, and went with narrower tires for better traction in heavy snow.

I'd rather have the extra ride height if I lived in Buffalo with all that snow. Hell, I'd only drive my SS in the snow in emergencies (since I've got a big-ass work van, although rear wheel drive doesn't go in a straight line well, either). I do miss driving my Mazda 323 in the snow, though, one hand on the wheel, the other on the hand brake

when it comes to snow traction, it's better to have a thinner tire so that it cuts through the snow. which is why it's beter to go with a smaller rim.
most larger rims tend to have a wider profile as well. besides if your getting steels then save yourself some money and tires by using a smaller rim.

Most people would probably be fine with those wheels as their summer wheels. haha!
