In the past I used Lexan paint (found at a hobby shop) and then clear cloated, it came out great and no flakes since the paint is made for plastic r/c bodies and flexes

EDIT: still sand slightly to remove oils.

I really all depends on what type of finish your looking for if you like the texture look of the doors i wouldn't recomend sanding. If you wanna get the smooth and glossy look it will take a bit of time to sand it to get that smooth... I didn't sand any of the grey panels when i did mine. Also the first time i did mine i didn't use a good primer i went the cheap route and got shitty primer and the paint scratched real easy so when i redid it i used self etching primer and it worked just fine. Just remeber that panels that get touched alot like door, and the lower panels in front are more prone to get scratched and scuffed.

Plus if in a YEAR there is a small chip.... repaint it. There small pieces and can be done in a few hours. Not something to really worry about or prohibit you from doing the project.

Everything will wear and deteriorate over time. Your interior paint, your exterior paint, your seats, your tranny. Everything. Its just something you have to deal with
have you done it? because i have...and i regret it. Im trying to save the OP from wasting his time/money and ruining his panels.

Im saying buy the panels out of he SS/SC, though i thought the 2.4 SS also had black panels inside.

My wife's 2.4 SS sedan has a grey interior too. However, there are a lot 2.4's that have black interiors too.

I just went to the website I referenced and had no trouble finding Chevy Cobalt. I ran an interchange search for model years 2005-2010 for the west coast only and came up with 10 pages of parts listed. I only looked for black parts and found a bunch of them just on page one. I'm sure you can find it. It won't take much. Chevy Cobalt is listed under Chevy Citation.

so your saying to go out and spend a decent amount on panels. Or he can go out and spend like 20 and pick up supplies to paint. If he paints and ***** up or decided to go the other route, then hes right back at square 1 minus 20 bucks which isnt enough to worry about. Then he can get the panels he wants. Paint is cheap and does its job, and because you regret it doesnt mean he will as long as he does a good job
