New Trunk Floor

Just finished installing my new trunk floor. I had seen the how to for a solid floor which gave me this idea. I used a sheet 7/16 OSB as it was about the thickest i could go with and still have clearance for my subs. I traced around the old mat and then cut it out with a jigsaw. I also cut out an opening above the spare tire / battery area and cut the remained in half. I sanded the edges and wrapped the pieces with a black vinyl attaching it with staples to the underside.

To do my access panel I screwed on a couple of flat piece of metal to the bottom of the side boards and then grinded off any part that stuck threw with a dremel so it was flat on the top side. I have 6 of them install around the edges to hold the access panel in place. I did this before I covered the wood so that nothing would show

I originally thought about hinging it but I didn't want the hinge to be visible. I couldnt figure out an easy way to do it so I came up with just a dropin piece that worked out better than expected.

Yea i found some small black hinges and against the carpet u cant see them at all, even put a little knob like a drawer or cabinet would have and it works perfectly for now if i recover in sued i may just do the drop in like u have, is that opening big enough to get ur spare out of?

***stupid question alert*** What's the point in doing this? Is it to secure your stereo equipment to?

no but you can. the point is because the stock fiberboard thing is thin and flimsy + vinyl looks better

I don't use or have a spare doughnut anymore. With the car being lowered and having the body kit installed I can only use a full size spare which I sometimes keep in my back seat. The opening is probably wide enough for a doughnut but it may need to be a little deeper. I only made mine go back about 15" due to the sub box.

The point of this was mainly to make a more sturdy trunk floor. The original pad / carpet had gotten warped from the weight of my subs along with me constantly lifting it up at the front to get access to the battery. By using the OSB its can hold a lot more weight than the flimsy stock stuff. It also allowed to me to make an access panel to the battery which shouldve been stock from the beginning. Lastly I think it looks better than the stock stuff that was there. I had thought about using a carpet like fabric and fiberglassing it all but then i wouldve been afraid to put anything back there for storage lol
