Our paint?
Our paint?
I hope somebody else knows what I am talking about when I say our paint sucks. I got my cobalt about 2 weeks ago. The paint looks like it is 2 years old. Tons of those micro scratch swirls. Yet I saw a 2 year old saab the other day with perfect paint.
Doesn't our paint have a warranty?

Paint does suck very much so. I have a few paint swirls, a bit more thhan a dozen visible scratches, and it has these weird dark spots on it in some places
EDIT: Come to think of it, My brothers 2004 Cavalier has less scratches on his car than I do, and his car is regularly driving through gravel roads and other roads where debris would scratch it up, whereas mine sits in the driveway, goes to some friends houses on clear, paved concrete roads, and gets parked in the back of parking lots..

I had dark spots on my hood so I brought it back to the dealer and they painted the hood under warrenty.
Kinda interesting to know that after 2 months the car is already scratched up after being nothing short of babied. Don't want to know what it will look like when the one-year marker comes around..
Can you guys post what color your cars are, maybe that is where the problems exist???
I've seen two other granite blue cobalts (other than mine) and the paint looks great!! I've had mine for a month now and prior to that it was on the lot for about as long.. even with a tree limb falling (small) on the hood and going through a minor hail storm my paint looks great...

hi to all im new and have been catchin up my readin on this site and am noticin alot of the same probs everyone has ive had mine since april 21 and now have a few paint chips to that are flaky and scratches that are very easily made especially under the door handle and the rear trunk has rubbed in to the tob of the bumper also there is defects in the paint small bumps under the paint (nothin to bad but enough to make you upset) i took it in and had other problems looked at to. and of course they couldnt find any of the mechanical problems with it and is all they did was polish the rubbing that was on the trunk. (which didnt do much) now that i know that this is happening all over i am giong to go back to the dealer AGAIN!!!!!!!
I've noticed alot of swirls and scratches on mine. I dont know how theres so many scratches when the car sits in the garage for most of the day. I guess thats what I get for buying a black Cobalt.
lol swirls will get on any paint, its not chevy's fault, i have no swirls on mine yet because im very careful with it when i dry it and wax it. just be careful and dont touch your paint when its dirty and be gentle when waxing

Alot of people on the Colorado / Canyon boards also complain about the quality of the paint. Makes me wonder if its actually the new paint they are required to use that are more environmentally friendly, or if they are using the paint sparingly. Alot of the Colorado / Canyon guys say they have spots where they can see or almost see primer due to the paint being so thin in some areas.

Our paint?
Also on the Corvette Forums, where the specific formulation is discussed at a depth the defies my understanding but makes sense to me. Apparently the solvents that help that paint blend are retricted both in type and amount. This is a USA requirement, as a consequence any new car built elsewhere in the world is governed by different rules. From what I have read, there is a chance that this only applies to cars as they are produced by the manufacturer and not to body shops where some Corvette owners take their cars for repaint as soon as they get them. Several thousand dollars to paint a brand new car seems a little pricey to me, but it seems some people can do and do do it. -- laborsmith
i also have a chip in my hood, and have only had this car 2 weeks! it also has some fish eyes in a couple of spots. I also have swirls in a couple of spots, and i have only washed this car twice since ive had it due to weather here. i also hit a rabbit and it chiped the front bumper, but i guess that is expected. I had an oldsmobile for 6 years, and never had a chip in the hood from normal driving. just my 2 cents on the paint as well.....

I too have a black SS and there is a paint drip on my a-pillar, on the trunk the clear coat in certain spots looks like it was just "left" out, and my hood is swirlled really bad, noticed it when i picked it up, but thought hey its black no biggie but now after these other things i will for sure be taking it in to get looked at....I think (i could be wrong) but gm has switched to powder coating for the 06 cobalts, ions, pursuits (dont know if it plant specific or what) we build the equinox/torrent and we are not powder coating however our paint jobs, including the black are great, i know we measure things like orangepeel and D.O.T (distinction of image) how well you can see your reflection in the paint basically. ill do some research through our plant and see what i can find out...
Don't get me wrong though, the paint is shinny and no imperfections ( That I have seen yet) It is just those swirl scratches are accumulating way too fast! The scratches I am talking about are the ones your normally see when you look at the sun's reflection on your paint.
