Outrageous Costs

ok i decided to replace my bumper with the rear off the drifter 2 kit since it a complete bumper and not just a "lip." I go to order the bumper for $234 dollars which is a good price on the cheapest site that i found. I get to the last screen to confirm my purchase and bam!! $175 for shipping. What the **** is up with that . I know damn well it does not cost 175 to ship because is shipped a bumper off my old grand am gt and it only cost 35 to a residential address. Does anyone have any opinions on this or know a site where i can get the bumper for a reasonable shipping cost? Shipping on ebay for full kits is only 150!!

I don't think the shipping cost is bad, considering it cost me almost $80 to ship a rear valance that didn't fit shipping criteria.

A Full bumper has to weigh about 20-30lbs. With it being odd shaped and long they go by Dimensions & Weight and not one or the other.

I don't know any good vendors, but you should check the locations of some companies you are looking to buy from. If one is within driving distance of you're home, they might allow you to pick it up from their location.

it costed me over a little over 150 for shipping for my carbon fiber trunk. when i got the box i thought it was empty it was so light and that box is also smaller then a bumper. i had to swallow my loss but its worth it

See if the vendor will ship Greyhound Bus for you. Cheapest way that I have found to ship motors and trannies. Might be cheap for a bumper too. shipgreyhound dot com

keep in mind, i dont think a company has to charge exactly what it costs them to ship the product.. they call it shipping and handling for a reason, they'll charge next to nothing for the product, then throw in the shipping cost, and then the handling cost is where they'll make some extra loot.. just my two cents.

I run an online business and it cost me 5 dollars to ship any and everything pretty much and i charge about 9, some times when profit margins are small on certain items the only money you make is off shipping.

The main problem is The size of the bodykit boxes. A front bumper boxed up correctly with enough packaging to not crack it is about he size of a refrigirator box. Even though it only weighs about 20 pounds all the shipping companies charge you by the size of the box which normally makes it in the 90lb Price/size range. For this fact that is why a full bodykit costs thesame as just a single piece because it fits in the same size box and is still under there calculated weight chart. Also fedex and UPS will not ship such large items . IF they even attempt it , it costs alot more than the $160.00 shipping charges most places list. The only thing we can ship using fedex or UPS is FEnders or sideskirts as they are small enough for them to take and more cost effective.
All bodykits are shipped ground freight throughout US and Canada. Most of the companies we use are the following : Old Dominion Freight Lines , Roadway Freight , Con-way Freight and a few others . Check there websites and you will see the nutty price quotes for these types of shipments. Businesses get a good Discount off these shipments but unless you ship tons of bodykits the discount isnt that much. This is the reason many places ship out of the bodykit manufacturers warehouse as they get better shipping discounts than most businesses due to the fact that its all that they ship out is large shipments , thus they get better shipping discounts. Most businesses dont set the shipping charge the bodykit manufacturer does. Especially now all the shipping companies have raised there prices due to the higher diesel prices.
The best thing to do is to buy a complete kit , even if you just want one piece . Sell whatever parts you dont need to friends or local cobalt owners. This is what we do on kits that we sell in our retail store . We mix and match kit pieces and different car parts so we can break the shipping charge up over 4 pieces instead of only over one piece. Yes , we still have to pay that same shipping charge you pay in order to stock a bumper or kit in our retail store. We just order more pieces to help break the shipping cost up. Pieces sold in our retail store are higher price than the individual item prices on the site to compensate for the shipping charge we had to pay to offer it in our retail store.
Get some friends together either with the same car or a different car and all go in together to buy a bunch of pieces. Doesnt have to all be a kit for the same car they will mix and match any pieces. We do this for our customers to help them out .
Hope this helps ,
Thanks
Donna and Kenny
