would a clay bar take care of oxidation on a carbon fiber hood if not what would be the best route?

 

how old is the hood? By oxidation are you talking about when the gel coat starts to turn yellow or white in color instead of being clear?

 

more of a fading look, hazed over, shows bad in the sun

 

Clay bar may work to fix that. As long as its the not gel coat that is the problem. If thats the case the gel coat would have to be sanded off and replaced.

 

sounds like gel coat, did u ever clearcoat the hood? heat from the engine bay does it too

 

also... u might want to go to a boat usa OR A BOAT STORE ..... and buy a.. pint jug of 3M renew i think its called.. its made just for clear coat and gel coat.. it fills in the imperfections.. that will take any haze away.. if u buy it in a gallon jug it runs about 150 dollars... ill see if i can find the name its probly ur only hope/... " i detail cars an boats during the summer for extra cash.."

 

Would you not be able to buff it back to original with a polishing compound and then a good wax to protect it,

 

So should i have a UV clear coat put on my hood & trunk? How long are we talking about before you start to notice this?

 

iv seen evo wings do that after a year of seeing the sun and elements. he had his recleared

 

is there a wax you can keep on it maybe to help?
